front suspension knocking sound

I have an 05 C2S and it sounds like my front struts are knocking around when traveling at a low speed. Like in a parking garage. They sort of make a dull knock or rattle. I don't hear them at high speed and the ride seems fine.

Do yours sound like this or am I due for a service visit?

Where is it? I hear something that almost feels like the steering rack is loose. Only at low speeds when going into driveways that have a bit of a curb.

Really?? One more big item and I'll be questioning the "bulletproof" reliability of these things. My factory warranty runs out in a few months...

I wanted to liven up this thread, because I just experienced the same thing and wanted to confirm that it was the top strut mount.

The car hasn't been driven in roughly 2 weeks, has 9k on the clock. When I turned it on today, and was traveling at low speeds with the wheels turned (i.e. making right turns), I heard the knock on the front right as well. After driving it for a bit, it seemed to have disappeared.

Any thoughts/confirmations?

When rubber bushings/grommets age and wear, they shrink a bit, which of course can cause some loose components that weren't loose before. I'd be checking those struts first, then anything underneath the chassis regarding the steering & susp. Give those pieces a tug or a shake... anything loose?

Have your previously hit anything that might contribute to this?

Drop links. Very common but not for newer cars. Hollow clunk?

Possible upper mounts but not likely.

Haven't hit anything. the car is an 08 with 9k miles - wouldn't the bushings/grommets need a little bit more time/miles than that to age and wear??

I just scheduled an appt. with the dealer for this week, so I guess time will tell. I'll update this thread with their findings.

With that mileage and more importantly, lack of age, it's probably not that.

it shold not knock - you may get strut mounts loose, may have doplinks loose, who knows. it`s an '05 car so it got some age now. did you try to stand on the door step and try to rock a car - do you hear anything? do both side rebound in same way?

i would recommend to go to mechanic you trust at least 90%+ with this or you may end up with new suspension.

I had a similar knocking sound from the front left, turned out to be a snapped control arm. Worryingly, Porsche didn't find it until their second inspection, first time they gave it back to me, stating there's nothing wrong!

Wow, what a great thread. I've having the same issue, however I've had the TPC sway bars put on and assumed it was these.

I have a similar hollow thunk coming from (I think) left front. I've had it to Porsche twice and all they have done is give me a spray can of water resistant lube to deal with the accompanying squeak from the sway bar joints. That has been fixed but the thunk persists?

If I want to do my own physical inspection, what should I look for?

09, 10K miles.
