Do you consider the 911 an "Exotic" or "Supercar" ?

For me, an exotic is a rare car. But it doesn't necessarily mean super-expensive. Almost more synonymous with eclectic. For example, a lotus Elise is IMHO an exotic. It is not that expensive but it is fairly rare on the roads because you have to put up with a lot of sh* to use it as a daily driver (or be a very small contortionist.

By extension, a super car is a car that a was engineered with no holds barred to attain a specific purpose. It is often very expensive due to the exercise at hand: being the fastest at something or the best at something is rarely inexpensive. Think titanium, carbon, kevlar, etc. Note that I said "engineered" not "built" as it is possible to spend a lot of money and still come up with a super-dud; maybe less in today's computer-aided everything, but you could see that happen from time to time. Think DeLorean.

An exotic supercar built only to be expensive is a poseur car and a completely other topic...

911's are weird in the sense that they approach both worlds without really touching them. They have become so reliable and are now tamer to drive than 25 years ago so they are very good DD. You see quite a few of them because once you put one on the road, it will stay there for a long time. Because of that, there is also a critical mass, hence they also became more "affordable". Finally, they have been capable beyond most driver's ability (including me) for a while already ans Porsche have been compromising on creature comforts for quite a few years (A/C, radio, electric everything, nice leather, etc.). So they are not supercars either.

Me, I am just happy to be in no man's land...

Just my 0.02.

T.

First of all, what is the definitions of "exotic" and "supercar" for you ?

And also, could a GT2 or GT3 RS be exotic or super and not a base Carrera ?
It is an affordable sport car. Many 'exotic' and 'super' cars are not sport cars. Porsche is a true sport car - it is repairable, adjustable and has all required features.

I do not mean to offend any American Muscle owners but their performances are gained from 5.0 or 6.0L engines, and their interior quality is ****...

911 is a Sports Car with Super Car performance, and daily drivable.

I think the GT series (CGT, GT3, GT2) are exotics and supercars.
As opposed to a Pagani Zonda which uses a 7.3L V12.

Carrera GT is an Exotic and it is a Supercar. It is the Flagship all out racecar for the street.

The 911 is the Ultimate Sportscar.

I’ve driven a Ferrari and owned a C6 Corvette. In my opinion a 997 is a supercar. Turbo’s, GTs must be above that.
