Cool Do you consider the 911 an "Exotic" or "Supercar" ?

Just curious how people consider the Porsche 911 (and the Porsche name) in the food chain...

First of all, what is the definitions of "exotic" and "supercar" for you ?

And also, could a GT2 or GT3 RS be exotic or super and not a base Carrera ?

I have the strong impression that most "average" people consider the Ferrari as the ultimate sports car (and also the most exotic w/Lambo)

but for many people the Ford Mustang or Chevy Corvette may be considered as the ultimate sports cars either..

I consider the 911 the ultimate sports car, to be driven and enjoyed. I do not parade my car for others' enjoyment or ego trips.

'Supercar,' 'exotic' are meaningless terms, usually denoting bragging-rights/garage-queens/trophy-cars, which spend most of their time being polished and shown to satisfy the owner's ego.

911's are difficult to catergorize, I think!
I agree Fez and Lambo are 'Supercars'.

To Me:
911 = Premium Sports Car with no rival in the market
911 TT/GT3 = Supercar, with slight lack of visual presence.
Drives better than more expensive rivals.
911 GT2/GT2 Rs = Nearly knocking the door on 'Hypercar' territory

But I think I am biased because we all have the bug!!

p.s Oh, with Gemballa kits any P-car will be a supercar instantly!!

Super car = C2/C2S and variants.

Exotic = Ferrari, Lambo, CGT, GT2, GT3, 997TT, AM, Veryon, etc.

Turbo is the super car you can drive every day. Exotic refers to Ferrari and lambos etc...

911 is the ultimate sports car meant to be driven every day

Good point. Both Italian marques produce almost unattainable cars, new or used, to most people. Performance is backed up by materials and craftsmanship not seen in most production cars. Maintenance becomes a major hassle though; probably one of the reasons why most (I assume) cannot drive these cars on a daily basis.

Both American cars you mentioned are much more affordable and offer almost the same kind of performance numbers (especially when modified), which in itself can be considered exotic. They are also much less expensive to maintain. That said, American interiors and ride are said to be lacking to their European counterparts.

I would say w/ these two arguments, Porsche comes inbetween. Their mid-engined supercars are in an entirely different league though.

Definitions of "exotic":

1. From another part of the world; foreign

2. Intriguingly unusual or different; excitingly stranges, strikingly strange or unusual; being definitely out of the ordinary and unexpected; slightly odd or even a bit weird;

3. Of or involving striptease: an exotic dancer. (hey cab owners!)

I see Porsches everyday. While Ferrari's, Aston Martin's and Lamborghini's are pretty uncommon.
But it's sure from another part of the world: Germany
Most japanese cars are from an even more exotic place: Japan.. haha

I would say

a 911 is the ultimate DD supercar although it is not very exotic in my opinion.

I don't think a car has to be a supercar to be exotic. I consider lotus to exotic but not a supercar.

I think of exotic cars as ones you just don't see everyday. I see a 911 at least once every two days so they are fairly common. Now I consider CGT to be exotic for sure.
