2 quick PCM questions I hope

I did a quick search on Orientation Lights and came up empty. Can someone tell me what this is?

And second, when I save 92.9 (I guess rock station) and 100.7 (classic rock for sure) they show up at L-? How/Can I force the PCM to save as the station frequency instead. I looked over the PCM book multiple times to try and find out what all the L listing mean and all I could find was one little refference to them. I thought I saw it somewhere and now I cannot find it. It also says stuff about the RDBS or whatever it is and I get the same thing if it is on or off. Also, 92.9 is stuck on telling me that it is a Green Day song. I even tried a full reset of the PCM settings and it still didnt go away. Please help!

I have an easy fix for that...

Take out the outdated PCM and put in a Kenwood or Pioneer navigation head unit. You'll get a 7" touchscreen, nav, bluetooth, ipod, xm, etc...

Sorry I cannot help you with your questions. I pulled the PCM out soon after I bought my car. Never even played with it as the sound was so crappy and the way it worked so outmoded.

Good luck!

I question how that changes things that the PCM does. Although minor the auto wipers with car start, auto climate control with your key, integration into the mini display on your tac, parking light time out, Sport Chrono funtionality, trip computer functionality...I am sure there is more but that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Plus there is the 3k I would need to come up with for the swap

I believe the "orientation lights" is the feature that leaves the headlights on after you have removed the key (for the time set on the screen) to light up your garage to make it easier to see and get in the house. You need to have the light switch set to the appropriate choice to activate that option.

As for labeling the stations properly... nope.

And for the RDBS - i know someone else had the stuck issue but I cannot remember what the fix was. Sorry.

John

I guess that makes sense for the lights. I dont know why it doesnt say anything in the PCM booklet about it. You need to have the switch set to "Home" for the feature to work. I do like it, just wasn't sure that was what Orientation Lights meant.

Not sure about the Orientation Lights but I found this in an online PCM manual:

"If the stores station is an RBDS station, the abbreviated station name appears in the memory presets in the FM main menu. With stations without RDS, the station frequency is displayed instead of the name.

Stations which transmit other information instead of the station name (e.g. weather, football results), are abbreviated to L-1, L-2, L-3, etc."

RBDS = Radio Broadcast Data System. It is a technique for the transmission of inaudible additional information in the FM band.

I couldn't find anything to toggle between L-1 and channel frequency or name though. I know my paper manual is much bigger than the online manual I have but I am at work and the car is at a shop getting tires now. If you find out how to do it, please PM me. Thanks.

did anybody ever figure out the radio station issue? i read a few things about how the "L-x" means local station and that's what it gets named if the radio station broadcasts any kind of alternate text.

i would love to just have either the station name/abbreviation or even just the frequency...the L-numbers don't mean anything to me.

I confirmed with the dealership that all 997.1 PCM do this. And there was nothing they could do about it. So I took in upon myself and found a solution.

1. Write down all the frequencies you want
2. Find nearest underground parking lot
3. Program until your heart in content

It sucks if you want to add a station, but in that case I just add it and then reprogram next time I am in an underground again.

I guess you could always turn them off and see what stops working. I may have to try that since I'm not sure what they are either.
