best performance mods for a 997 S ?????
Just trying to get an idea of what the best performance mods are for a 997.1 S? Pros Cons etc. I think a lot of us would love a GT3 but can't afford it perhaps. Got fast parts suggestions would be great!
From what I gather the Carrera does not have the ability to touch the engine of the GT3 however the handling may be an area that can come close.
I have the following
BnM short shifter... Sharkwerks install. Love it!
Evom cold air intake... Sharkwerks install. sounds good
EvomSit remap.. Sharkwerks Amazing mod! Love it!
Eibach Spring.. Looks cool but not a giant imporvement over stock ride. Less expensive than coilovers but not as effective me thinks.
RSS adjustable sway bars.. I think this is a great mod with proper settings, I do notice an improvement in handling. Have to get good alingment to make it work well.
Agency Power Exhaust. Perhaps one of the least impressive mods IMHO. It's just loud but not melodic in any sence. Construction looks ok but don't notice any change in power. What would have been good here? Cargraphic perhaps?
any input appreciated..

Humm looks like that is around 10k$ plus install. Maybe a good mod, maybe a crazy mod! But I think most Porsche techs would consider that an extreme mod. Possibly one that could blow the engine. There must be a lot of debates about taking a N-Asperated engine and tricking it out to that extent.
But I asked, didn't I!
On another note I wonder if there are any independent tests for the best exhaust system for that car power wise?

What does your Cargraphic Exhaust system consist of? Mufflers? Cats? Headers?
I am surprised that Alex didn't get you a LWFW, it is a great mod IMO.
As for springs, I had a set in my first 997, CO's are much better.

If performance is what you want, you can spend thousands and thousands in the pursuit of HP, and find that it all adds up to nothing but a hill of beans. If you want real power, you've got to go the forced-induction route, either with a kit like the TPC single turbo, or the VF-Engineering Supercharger.
If you want handling, you can again spend tens of thousands and get GT3-like components, however, the whole if often worth more than the sum of the parts.
As for improved sound, that's highly subjective and personal. Bang for buck nothing comes close to doing the Gundo Hack on OEM cans.
Finally, of all the mods possible, and I've done most of them, the one that I think is very safe, easy, and adds not only power but sound, I'd recommend the AWE 200 cell sport cats.

Ok I have to ask as I have been considering this Mod. Any way to explain the power gain in butt dyno terms or the improved sound? I am really curious as I have been looking at the Fabspeed 200 cell. My car came with hi flow headers and I put on new mufflers but I have stock cats. I hear that you can get a CEL warning with the sport cats.
Do you have a LWFW?
Appreciate the info a lot!

I have to ask you one simple question; are you looking for straight line acceleration or handling? Depending on your answer there are a couple of routes to take.
For straight line acceleration there are basically two options: 1- Go with FI (either a supercharger or turbo) 2- A full exhaust system, intake & ECU tune. As I do not like FI so much, I chose to stick to naturally aspirated route and I added the full AWE system. I am quite happy with the results. I do not believe mixing and matching exhaust systems yield to optimal output since each manufacturer produce parts to go together as a whole system. There are differences in diameters and etc. Not to mention quality between manufacturers.
For handling: I would suggest starting with coilovers, then if it is not enough change the sways. If both are still not enough (it should be more than enough if you are only driving on the street), you can go with better tires. And last but not least the RSS suspension components.

The flywheel thing sounds pretty good as well. Also sport cats?
Need some people to chime in that have either.

If I were starting modding a 997S.1 now for mainly road use with possible occasional track use (and wasn't going to do forced induction) I'd do the following:
1) Full AWE exhaust
2) BMC-F1 panel filter
3) Softronic
4) Light-weight flywheel
5) Blistein B16 Damptronics and full alignment / cornerweights / lowering
6) Michelin PS2s on light weight wheels.
This combo gives you a really-responsive, superb-sounding car with a big performance bump (30-35 BHP, crank) you can properly feel. It will also corner like it's on rails and still ride well.
Enjoy!

Sorry to bump up an old thread, but didn't think this question was worthy of a brand new thread.
Vivid Racing advertises a few different stages of power packages on their website. Stage 4 includes an intake system, Softronics tune, Agency Power exhaust, cats, and headers, and a intake plenum. This package is quoted as adding 55hp to a 05+ 997 all for about $4k. Does this seem a little optimistic to anyone else? That would put a 997.1 S at about 410bhp, guess I'm just a pessimist, but that seems a little high for some basic bolt ons.
Anyone have any input or has anyone use this setup?
