Test drove 4 997's today..Gimme advice

Well I'm in the market for a 997. I like the 06-07 years cause that is what I can afford. Here is what I drove.

An atlas grey 2007 Carrera with 30k miles Certified, tip

http://www.sonnenporsche.com/detail-...d-5599739.html

They wanted 58,988 for that car. With tax etc, it would be 56 and change out the door. Before I left got the m down to 60,500 out the door still think it is high. Feedback please

Next I drove a 2007 Carrea with 29k miles and it was a stick.

http://www.sonnenporsche.com/detail-...d-5599740.html

Best pice was like a grand cheaper.

Then I drove a 2008 Carrea S with 7k miles

http://www.rectormotors.com/used/Por...36ee79f432.htm

This one seems a little out of my price range but I wanted to drive the S to get a feel for the difference. It was 72 without tax and fees. I got them best price down to 67k without tax and fees.

Please tell me if these are good or bad deals.

Thanks going to more places tomorrow.

Larry! Break it down for him. You are the best at this!

Hopefully member yarrlis1 will chime in, he always has a good perspective when it comes to these decisions.

First you have to decide if a tip is even an option for you as a personal choice.
Prices seem above par to me but I haven't researched prices in awhile.

Good point on the tip vs. manual. I would personally avoid the tip with PDK being out on the newer years.

And as stated by Hella-Buggin, those prices do seem high in this market, all of them.

I would try to find a 2006 C2S at a dealer with a CPO, the money should be around the same as the 07's C2's and you get a bunch of extra's on the S that you don't get or have to order as options on the non S.

That's exactly The same conclusion I came to 9 months ago.
And I can tell you I paid allot less than those asking prices.
I checked with sonnen but they weren't really looking to help me buy a car.
They just wanted to sell a car. Even if it wasn't what I was after.

Try looking round the bar area at other dealers.

There's:
rector, carlson, Michael stead, livermoore, Fremont

we're lucky in the bay area in that if you don't like one you're only 45 minutes from three others.

We only have one dealer here, however there are a lot of brokers willing to find us exactly what we want from your side of the border.

Nice car.. I like it.. Not sure about the price.. but 30K miles isn't high miles for what is now a 4-year old car.

I paid $48 for a non-cpo C2S with 29K miles. I'd figure the equivalent CPO at a dealer would be $52-54K before tax and license. That's probably "fair". For a C2S, they may have to change the brakes, tires, etc. and that would be built into the price of the car. Ask to the see the service records and find out what was done on the car before they CPO'd it. Not all CPO's are created equally, as sometimes the original gear will meet CPO thresholds. From your OP, it sounds like $56-60K out the door is your price range. For that you should definitely be able to get an '06 C2S CPO. I know your original search was on a C2, but I went C2S and it was 1000% the right decision. There were no changes from 2006 to 2007. But if you want to stick with the 07 C2, then I think those prices are a bit high. Work'em down a bit. What 2007 will get you is some extra warranty time (depends on when the clock was punched).

Before you head down the the path any further, I'd figure out if you want a tip or a manual. Obviously, PDK is out of your price range so let's not even go there. I've tried a tip and I thought it was gross (personal opinion). Who knows, you may love the tip or find that it suits your needs. Although I'd love for my wife to be able to drive my car, there was no way I was going to drive a tip... tough luck for her... You need to drive both and figure out what's right for you.

I bought my 06 C2S Coupe about a month ago and paid a similar price to what you're looking at - it was $61 plus tax, and came with 13k miles, CPO, Sport seats & Sport Chrono (desirable for me), stick, and Nav (which I removed). I think all of this is evidence of the firmness of the market right now. I did a bunch of research at the time, and felt I got the best deal out there, for what I wanted.
IMHO, any lower prices are going to be due to a 'get what you pay for' scenario, or a seller that's not hip to the current market (that can happen, but you'll need to act quickly when you find that deal).
Again, IMHO, another way to go is to wait till the 11s are out, Spring fever eases even more, economy troubles continue, etc. I'd bet even money that the market softens again, maybe sooner than later, but for now, based on my experience, it's hard to find a great deal.

Also, buying an late '07 non-CPO (maybe private sale) might get you ~18 months of warranty, which is almost as good as CPO (2 years), as long as you get a good PPI.

I may have missed it but none of the cars seem to have Sports Chrono. Other than that they all seem to have good options.

One more thing to consider in your negotiations: Are you going to need new tires soon or are the tires fairly fresh?

When people tell you what they paid without telling you the MSRP, then those prices are useless...

A 2007 could have been $75k new or $95k new...these cars are all optioned completely different. Each one is unique. Trying to get comps is really hard.

An example: my 07 coupe was almost $90k new and I paid $60k out the door. CPO and 16,500 miles. This was 4 months ago.

You don't have to buy from a local dealer...search all of CA. You may actually find a great car that's not so close...I did. 100 miles away. Was a great drive back home in it!

Good luck
