'11 997.2 3rd Radiator

While at the dealer yesterday, I looked at a recently arrived '11 Carrera S and they now have the 3rd radiator installed standard. It sits right in the center of the front duct. I thought it looked a bit unsightly - like an afterthought and also was exposed to every piece of low-flying road debris and rock that could hit it.

Is this a good idea - or some interim solution (to what problem ) until the 991 comes out?

Interesting.

What I can tell you is I just came back from a 4200mile, 10day, 9state roadtrip from Georgia to Sedona AZ....hit the Grand Canyon and all places between while seeing 106deg on the road. At no time did the gauges alter from what I would see just driving locally.....and it was flawless!

So in the FWIW department....... I've yet to see anything close to a cooling issue.

Precisely. This is something to answer tracked cars in very hot climates. I see no reason to retrofit those on previous year cars, unless one has experienced over-heating problems. No reason to add extra weight and risk a rock puncture.

OK, I saw the bulliten - this is PDK only.

If I drive around even on a modestly hot day and run Sport+ for 20-30 minutes, even driving otherwise non-aggressively, the temp goes up quite a bit higher than in Sport - and the fan will run for a good while after I park it. Not hard to imagine something extra might be good on the track. I have already seen one post where someone DIY'd the 3rd rad.

No issues with temps on the street but at the strack oil temps can get a little over 250 degrees. I noticed when I 1st took delivery of my 09 997.2S PDK that the oil got up to normal temps up faster than my 997.1 Tip did with street driving.
As an old Tip 997S guy (as to why I drove a Tip...see my avitar) those cars did have the center 3rd radiator. I had no temp issues with the Tip cars or any radiator issues either.
Hopefully Porsche will make the 3rd center radiator an affordable easy mod...waiting to see what happens.

Its a very affordable and easy mod on the 997.1 platform. We have done a number of installs lately.

Champion, any word from Porsche about an update for the 2009-10 PDK cars to install this 2011 center radiator?

Interesting that there have been modifications to previous years. I was informed that the Porsche 3rd radiator would not be retrofittable to previous years.
