U can set up search on autotrader with all the parameters you want and it will email you any new listings automatically. I have found that helpful.

It, seems that for that price you would get a manual, either white or black color with either black or grey interior. No nav or ipod etc. It would be like bare bones. And still cost you like 67-69. Once you start added well I want PDK, Nav, vented heated seats, sat radio, phone, this that now you price point is blown up. For me I had to have ipod, phone, nav, heated seats the color I wanted artic silver or slate grey with black or tan interior. I wanted PDK. Man I think that's the key what options you can't live without and even on my car I paid for the PPI. Had to for the peace of mind. Got them to throw a car cover in...still waiting for it. Beleive it or not they can't find the extra key...so if they don't have it by saturday they have to pay for a new one.

When I starting shopping for my 997 I realized that the prices on these cars are all over the place. there's no consistency at all. I've seen many dealers in my area price a 2006 Carrera S for $73k or 2008 base Carrera for $82k. And they weren't that flexible with prices at all. And these cars are still sitting on their lots over 6 months plus. I guess they're not in a rush to unload them. Alot also depends on the type of dealership too, there are some that price pre-owns so cheap that they are turned over in 1 week or less. And some dealers don't get enough inventory/allocation of p-cars that they are just looking for suckers.

I got my base 997.2 with pdk with chrono for $67k (w/ 5k miles) about 6 months ago. And I thought it was a pretty good deal.

IMO the most overrate option is the NAV. You can get a decent NAV such as Garmin for under $250. And honestly I don't mind getting lost and driving a little bit more than I have to in my 997.

I have an 09 base Carrera with ipod, XM and power seats. I have been thinking of swapping for a turbo or GT3. My local dealer offered me 60k on trade so I figure they will want to sell it in the high 60's and make a nice profit.

hey Larry, if this is indeed a good time to sell a Porsche then unless I go carless until it is once again a good time to buy then it's hard to come out on the winning side of both these trades. In your view is this a good time to sell used and buy new? What discounts do you think are available on new order 2011's or left over 2010's? Perhaps better to wait for the 998 in 2012?

Exactly !!!!!!
Sell or trade the car and try and hammer out whatever discount you can get on the new car. it's the used cars that are overpriced . Turbos and gt3's are a different market . Turbos have been discounted in the past but Gt3's are not usually .
If you can knock a few K off either that's the best route and that 60K trade is good.

If dealers are offering $60k for trade in, then you should be able to buy one for not much more than that. As expected, options and colors can make huge differences.

One of the $65k cars is on ebay right now. It's a white PDK car with low options. He's asking $67,900. I offered $63k and he's firm at $65k. It's sort of a remote area of WV. His name is George but he's obviously foreign after speaking with him. I'm gonna pass and wait for a better car so if someone else wants to take a shot, let us know how it works out.

Used cars are actually a higher margin item than new cars and it's not uncommmon for a dealer at this price point to try to make $5-7k on a car. I don't think they would even do a deal that nets them $1-2k.

The white launch car is a specific car . The reason why it's priced lower is because each dealership was given FOUR of the exact same car (same everything) . The Green "S" car is also priced lower .

BTW .. I was offered 75K for my "S" . I had considered trading it for a Gt3RS so Tromero is accurate on trades . My car has a lot of upgrades and pricey options though .

Since the used prices are so high ..I think waiting is wise .UNLES you really need a car and then I'd say arm wrestle the pricing with NEW cars.

Why buy an 09 which is two years old this close to an 11 car .

new '09 or CPO c2

I would suggest holding tight to a dealer and a CPO rather then a private sale. That CAN add about $5k to the cost but the warranty goes along way after 50000 miles have past.

Last summer I pickup my CPO pcar w/ 1,600 miles for under $65k so it could be 'yesterday' and gone. Yes Porsche sold great in June but inventories are off the charts. You gotta settle what You Want and then find it, and stand still with the saleperson, while they decide if their as serious about moving a unit as you are about your desire.

Good Hunting !

Inventories are not as high as last year.

Also, VW's recent remarks over Porsche will also likely drive up prices of older Porsches. Time will tell.

somebody here mentioned sport chrono. I have yet to figure out what the rave is about the feature... I read one editorial (I think in EVO, but can't remember now) about SC being a sign of the over-cluttering of modern cars, reminiscent of all the gadgets in the old E39 M5. On the other hand, I hear it's one of the "must have" options for a lot of people. As close as I can figure, it lets you program windows/ac/etc etc etc. And you get a sport button (that doesn't improve the performance, just adds a non-sport mode that slightly drops the performance until the button is activated, correct?).

Am I missing something?

Sport Chrono also brings Sport and Sport Plus modes.. I couldn't imagine not having the Sport driving mode.. it reallly livens things up. I haven't played around in Sport Plus - yet.. Sport does it for me.

With PDK cars it is consider a must have by many owners. Heres a recent thread...

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...necessary.html

After reading the threads i would not buy a pdk car without it.
