911's are bad at drag racing....NOT !
hey guys
Well today i met a friend of a friend who had a Challenger( air intake- catback- enhanced gear ratios) and we decided to go for a friendly run. We compared acceleration from about 40km/h to 200 and then from a dead stop up to 200. The Carrera S( fabspeed intake- rennsport muffler) won both tests. So how come i hear a lot of opinions stating that the 911 isn't well suited for drag racing? I mean sure it does other things muh bettter , but i believe that the rear wheel rear engine layout gives it a huge advantage when drag racing.
opinnions ?

My opinion IS you are right!
Even though the car IS best suited for the track/corners.....I found the car did really well in a straight line as well!
Try it with a FI set-up(supercharger or turbo)......

The car isn't really meant for drag racing but a 997S wouldn't embarrass itself . You took on an underpowered oponent (weight factor) . Run that car against an AMG , a CtS V. a ZR1 , even a GtR .. and you'd lose .

Plus others have stated that the 997.2 S is even faster than both the m5 and the m6 from a standing start. So for 385hp this car is doing pretty well i guess.

I never understood the 'not ment for drag racing' comments. The 911 has rear weight bias, low profile-fat rear tires, launch control, good lb/hp ratio, pretty good gearing. Seems pretty good for drag racing compared to other cars.

ًWell, out of the cars you stated, im sure the 997.2 S is faster than a C63. I also believe that the new turbo would take are of the rest that you mentioned

The new Turbo would beat them. A modded Turbo would also beat them too (drag races) .

I have taken mine to the local drag race way.
I can say, its 80% driver.
I raced Camaro’s, Weekend race cars, beefed up Hondas, a Lambo about 4 times, 3 vetts.
The 911 came out on top every time.
That Lambo should have won, but Im thinking the driver wasn’t even using the correct sport shifting (like I said 80% driver)
One of the vetts was on the juice, yet he spun off the line and would lose the back end when he shifted into second. I saw him in my mirror getting squarely. (again: 80% driver)
From the line the 911 stuck like glue and launched liked a rocket. I never missed a gear.
I did notice my reaction time from light to launch was slow … I couldn’t anticipate enough to get a better time and I guess I was afraid to red light.
My daughter and her friends were in the stands, they were telling me MOST everyone was betting the 911 would WIN.
Few people were saying, Porsche always wins … maybe only by a “inch”, but some how Porsche always wins.
I don’t like that rolling start racing. Do a standing 1/8 mile, ¼ mil or driving course. Everything else gives them that moms car advantage.
Lots of fun

You can drag race anything and the 911 does have a great setup for a good launch. But, I bought my 911 for the twisties because I already have a drag car:

Well , i see others share my opinion
Of course a 911 natural habitat is at the twisties, but its just a nice bonus to know that it could handle itself fairly well in a childish drag race
