Thoughts on 2006 C4S

So I found this 2006 C4S black/tan coupe 6 speed with 13K on it in pristine condition, loaded but doesn't have any factory warranty left, the guy is asking 56 but I think I can get it for 55, it's got full leather, sports chrno and all...only 13K on it!! I'll get rid off my 08 GTS, what do you guys think, should i punch the ticket...any thing i should be concerned about?

That's right in the price range of what others have sold for for that model/year/mileage. If you're down to a $1k gap, look at the little things like scratches, interior leather condition, service records (he probably took it in at least once or twice right? documented?), options, tire wear that can lead the final sale to either your $55k price or his desired price. Check the past threads about 06's that have gone for sale. Get a PPI, DME scan.

Also, something i don't see listed much, do you like the seller? Do you get along, does he seem like a genuine guy and give you an accurate run down on the car? On a test drive, tell him to drive first and just watch his habbits. Is he a smooth shifter? He was in the driver's seat for 5 years, do you trust taking his ride after he passes it on?

I just got done taking my new one for a spin, if you really like the car and everything lines up, just do it!

thanks....it's sitting at a dealership. The story is, it was owned by a an old gentleman who passed away and his wife just let the car sit in the garage for 3 yrs and finally got over it and sold to this local dealer, who is pretty good. I drove it and it sounds and runs amazingly well but that said I'll take it down the street to newport porsche and have the dealer inspect it

Hmmm what kind of dealership? Some on this board are suspect of cars that have been sitting for a while, or stories like that told by a 3rd party dealer. Why didn't the wife sell to the Porsche dealer? The consensus seems to be that these cars should be driven. It could be perfectly fine however. Did they change the oil/fluids asap when they got it? Don't ask them that question point blank, ask them what happened after they purchased it in terms of getting it ready for sale. Do they have a good service dept that knows P-cars? Definitely have the local Porsche dealership inspect it. Expect to pay $350-$400 and talk to the person responsible about the long garage time. Search this forum for other's experiences. It could be a great car for many years to come.

Perhaps I am looking at a different car listing ........

The one I am looking at listed on auto trader in your general region has TWO previous owners and is NOT at an authorized Porsche dealership . Carfax says it was serviced at a toyota dealership ?
It was also built in 2005 which was a year more prone to RMS and IMS issues.

What do you like about this car ?

I can understand why you like the widebody 4S . I just don't understand that specific car with all the uncertainties . The story just doesn't add up.

In my opinion .. spend 66K instead of 56K and get a newer car with a CPO. Less doubts and more insurance in repairs. If you do buy an out of warranty car then at least buy it from a private owner who can go over the car a bit with you and place you in contact with the technicians who did all the upkeep maintenance to answer any questions.

in my opinion .. the savings on that car does not outweigh the risks.

I just picked up a 2006 C4S Coupe,17k miles with a host of options for $55k, private sale: One owner, all books/records, Cobalt Blue / Sand Beige, full leather, Sport Chrono, PSE, etc. I LOVE the sport exhaust! The car is mint. I feel pretty lucky to get it at this price. The seller started at $65k in the beginning of summer. Now I hate to even look around! You have to bite some time. I was getting impatient.

Thanks guys I hear you all, the guy wont budge more than $57K and after I buy the extended warranty from NB Porsche it's running right around $67K, at that rate I could get a CPO and get 07 or earlier 08!! In any case I'm in no rush I still love my GTS but man am I taking a bath on that one they offered me 47 for an year old puppy...arggghhhh the dealers!! So I'll be patient as the market is not going anywhere but south..

$47K for a Cayenne GTS w/6speed? Yikes. I'd buy it from you for that

Keep the GTS. It's a sick ride. Yes, there is something about the allure of a 911, but the GTS isn't too shabby in it's own right!

Another P-owner's eyes is an excellent resource when buying a used vehicle. See if you can get another driver who has a 4S to test drive with you. Many forum members will provide that service and give you honest feedback.

I'm rather suspect whenever I hear a car salesmen tell me stories about the previous owners. Many bend the truth or will only tell you the highlights. The only thing I believe is a combination of the Title, PPI, Carfax + service receipts. (BTW -Even carfax reports aren't 100% accurate). +1 on the PPI.

While that could be the story, 13K miles for an old gentlemen to drive a Porsche over saw a 1-1 1/2 year period is a lot of miles on average. Not being to sceptical but sounds like an updated version of the "little old lady and the Sunday drive ... " story to me. Check the Carfax and get the inspection you mention. Dealer might have some history on the car also if the little old man story is true he would have had it serviced at the dealer.
Then offer 'em what you thinks it's worth and wait 'em out. Can't imagine they'd let you walk for $ 2 grand on a car I'd guess they gave the little old lady something close to mid $ 40's for. Besides, Porsche buying season is just about over until next spring. If the dealer doesn't sell it soon you can make 'em another offer in April or 2011.

some good points in this thread, I am in the market for either C2S or C4S 2006+ and haven't found one in my price range and color that I desire. I know I might be asking for too much but some cars out there are either never driven or driven the hell out of it with either too little miles or too much miles. I can't seems to find happy medium.
good luck

What would be the "right" mileage for you on a 2006? Just curious. I recently bought a 06' C4S with 26k miles and I thought that was about right.
