997 turbo LED blinker mod to day time lights

Does anyone know how to take apart the LED BLINKER? I want to replace the orange LED's and replace them with white leds so i can use it as a DRL but i see the housings are glued together with hard glue.

This would be a great mod, esp if you can run it as DRL. You will probably need to apply heat (bake it in the oven) to get them apart.

Looks like a good methacrylate glue to me... I'm thinking the only way to separate them is to cut them out. You might have some luck with painstakingly using an Exacto Knife and scraping it between the two pieces over and over...

Baking it at 350 deg for 10 min would do the trick. Let me know how it goes. BTW where did you buy the LED from?

so I decided to go with cutting the plastic. I know the heat version would probably work aswell since I did that on my mitsubishi eclipse many years back but before I had used only a heat gun, I was afraid baking might brown the lights so I used a dremel tool with a super thin slicing tool and a tiny sanding tool to get into small places. took about 10mins time i was able to take it apart. you have to be VERY VERY CAREFUL when slicing the plastic esp on the sides. after this I just need to soilder in the the white LED's, sand and refinish the contacts, and glue it back together. Will go to the LED shop tomoro and get that done.

Great work! Are you doing this on your TT? Next question is how do you make the LEDs stay on and perhaps even blink?

well there are many ways of doing it i researched, some people use a relay and make it so u can use it as a drl and a turn signal, but it will blink in white only. U can buy a LED that can do white and orange and relay that to work aswell which the LED shop i work with sells. I'm going to do it the simple way though, use the 6 LED's for DRL in white and if you noticed, there is a 7th Light on the side which was the original DRL light i will use a orange LED and run the single bulb as a blinker.

Awesome! Vivid racing has similiar setup also utilizing city lights as turn signals. I am not sure how bright the city light will be for turning. I have Hoen DLEDs for city lights and they are decent at night but not really visible during the day. Perhaps orange LED might work better. Please keep us posted on your progress.

i believe the turn signal error can be corrected. Its been done with my friend's TT, I'll ask him the procedure and post it up when finished.

i am in process of doing a setup where they will be white for dtr and the entire strip of leds go to yellow for turn signal. If anyone is interested i would consider doing multiple sets. had a deer hit recently and converting front end to 997 now.

Please let me know what you find to correct the error. This cannot be done via Durametric 6.0 or PIWIS. It is resistance based I believe.

Paint the chrome black while you are at it. That what we did on our car and it looks great.
