Brakes sticking after washing

Guys just wanted to see if anybody else has this problem. Everytime after washing my car and leave it to dry. MY brakes seems to stick and I have to put in gear and move the car to brake it free. Just wondering if this is bad for the car and if anybody has a solution to this? Now what I do is after cleaning the car, I manually push the car in garage and instead of using the e brake I put in gear to avoiding using the brakes.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

So you just deal with it? When the brakes brake free, it sounds like something is going to give.

I usually take it for a spin around he block after drying to dry the brakes and shake all the drops out of the nooks and crannies. This will also make your wheels a mess as the water inside the break components will cause the brake dust to drain inside the rims. I then clean them up with a rag and they are good to go and I avoid the sticky wheel problem.

Sometimes after a wash, my brakes lock up a bit in the first few yards of driving. It seems worse if you let your car sit for awhile after they get wet. Lots of other drivers have experienced this, too.

The brake pads need to break through the rust, dust, and crud on the rotor surface before hitting the actual metal. I think the increased surface area of the pads and the slightly closer proximity to the rotors makes it a more common occurrence than what you'll experience on non-performance cars....but my family wagon does it a bit, too.

normal. if you wash the car and the rotors get soaked, they tend to develop a surface layer of rust. breaking it free using the calipers after a wash + drive will be beneficial to clearing it before storage

It happens to mine, too. I usually blow the water droplets out of the little crevices and holes on the rotor/brake using the Metro Vac Blower, drive around a block once, pull it into my garage (for further waxing/polishing/tire dressing), then wipe off the rusty stuff from inside the rims, then I am good.

As everyone said, a good spin around the block and drying of the excess water will solve your problem. I don't have a porsche yet, however my other cars do have this same problem.

Yep, it's normal to have the brakes stick after washing. I forgot to tell my wife about it and she got in and thought she broke something because when it un-sticks it makes a thwack sound.

My first was more of a 'groan', not a 'thwak'. (wetted, sat, and froze overnight)...... It was definitely gut wrenching, the first time I heard it.

+1 on taking a spin after the wash. My wife thinks it's funny that every car wash includes a 30 minute "drying the brakes" exercise. Not only does it eliminate the sticking problem, but I swear my cars run better and faster right after a wash!

Cars absolutely go faster and stop better if they are clean. At least it feels that way :-/

Speaking of taking the car around for a dryoff spin after wash, I also noticed these cars tend to accumulate water in a lot of spots. Drive around and there will be water streaks on the door, back, door wells, etc which needs to be wiped again.

When I had a 996 C4 as a daily driver in Boston for 3.5 years, it happened all the time, especially in the winter. Sometimes they stick so bad that the car would jerk backwards once the power broke the bond.

Happens on my 996 Turbo too, but here in the dry weather of Colorado, it's rare.

Nothing to worry about.
