Post Supercharger Question-Should I Buy?
Hi All:
An 06 997 C4S I am thinking about buying had a supercharger installed by original owner, was driven for about 3-4K miles, then the 2nd owner had Porsche remove it and recertify under warranty the engine was fine. Now that warranty has expired, I'm concerned as original installer of supercharger told me to steer clear, as non-turbo engine was never designed for that pressure. Should I avoid the car? Many thanks, Fred

I wouldn't take a chance on it as a mistake could cost you big time down the road. Now if you can get an extended warranty you can take chance on it but, for my money, I'd find another car I didn't have doubts about.

Also, any aftermarket warranty will deny a major claim if they can see that a SC was installed, and usually they can determine this. Their adjusters are no dummies. Read the fine print in your warranty.

An SC is a fantastic mod. I love mine. And I can tell you that my car, if I were to uninstall the SC and sell the car, would be in better shape than any other car you could find. Gets an oil change every 4k miles, compression is perfect, and boost on SC is low. So it would depend. In my car's case, you'd be in great shape. If it's an unknown, then maybe move on.

I'd pass unless you are saving 10K+ on a comparable car. That money could be used for repairs if needed. What are the chances that the Porsche dealer that performed warranty/service for the car was not aware that there was a SC in the 911. I would think that this would be documented. Pass unless you are willing to deal with major headaches.
