How to open key fob?

The keyfob on my '06 997S broke. I found a spare on Ebay.

How do I open it so I can switch the blade and the remote from the broken one to the new one?

I don;t want to break that one as well

Thanks.

Thank you both.

While I go look for my manual: how do I remove the key blade so I can swap that out as well?

Another way is to drop your key on the concrete garage floor like I did last week. The key opened up and deposited the contents on the floor for me. I guess you have to drop it just right though.

Thanks everybody. I checked out the manual, but it was of course mute on the issue of switching the key blade. Any ideas on that anyone?

GL with that...I do believe the key is glued/epoxied onto the bottom piece of plastic......FOR that, you are on your own!
Sorry!

I've always been impressed with what you can do with just 2 simple tools: a hammer and a butter knife. You could perform wonders if you added a cold chisel to your collection.

Sorry!

I just got a key cut recently and on both of my keys, once you remove the casing (as shown above) you should see little black plastic that has a spring at the back of it. This plastic piece keeps the blade in place. if you compress the spring by pushing the plastic piece back you should be able to remove the blade.

Thanks again. I did see that spring and assumed it had somethig to do with retaining the blade. I will try it again.

Report back - I'm trying to do the same thing - I depressed the plastic retainer and the key blade didn't just pop out and I didn't want to use any undue force since I'm not sure how it is held in.

No dice.

I removed the spring and the little slider attached to it. I tried pying the key blade loose from several angles and applying as much force as I could without breaking the plastic.

Nothing is budging.

Are we the only two people ever to attempt this?
