it looks like a good maintained car, the price seems ok. Any thoughts?
How different does the automatic feel to the current gens PDK?

Low mileage and the condition "looks" nice by the pics...however, it is lacking some common options that I saw on many "S" models when I was shopping around: PSE, sport chrono, disk changer... If you want a S Cab and don't want a MT, then you should be able to get down closer to $50K, no prob. Maybe even lower.
PDK and automatic are different animals....but you probably won't be able to get into a used 911 PDK in the 50's for a few more years. (Check out the numerous PDK threads.)

I just picked mine up for $51K
'06 Cab S
39K Miles
Linen over Cocoa full leather
Had it independently inspected and it is in perfect condition. No issues, leaks, squeaks, etc.
The difference in miles makes yours a fair deal.
Get a PPI and go for it!

I would definitely get an independent inspection and put a paint gun on car.
I looked at 06 and 07 tips but went with 09 PDK. The 09 PDK is a little more car although most casual drivers probably wouldn't notice much difference. Not bad options either way. Good luck!

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has purchased a '06 S Cab with approx 20K miles for $50K. I think the automatic and few options hurts this S, but not to the point that the seller will let it go for $50K. Maybe I'm not in touch with the current market, but I will believe it when I hear that someone got a '06 S Cab with 20K mikes for $50K.

An out of warranty 5 year old car at an independent lot ?
I view buying a dream car as something which has emphasis on reducing the risk of repair and headache to make the experience worth the expense.

Seemingly everyone is looking for the 50K Porsche 911 . In fact even if you found one there would be 20 other people trying to buy it too . Half of them won't have the money and the other half will hiccup at every step of the way because it is usually such a stretch at that price level .
And that's if you found one .
Most people don't -or if they do it has miles . lacks warranty, or has some other doubt issue which makes every penny saved diminish the "bargain" .
Of course there will always be a counterexample where someone really got a great car at a low price but 50K on a 997s cab ? not common.

Funny enough I bought a very similar car - white S Cab with 24,000miles, full leather, Navigation, few other options about a year ago for low $50s
At that time, I had a few months warranty left and had the car checked by local Porsche; no worries at all (other than needing new tires), no issues at all with the car.
Very glad to know that I could still get around $50k for it.
Go for it (and you should be able to go below $50k) - great car, indeed ...
I agree with the pricing comment above.
You will not get a good, low-miles 06 S Cab for $50K.
Mine was $51K and had 39K miles.
However, I disagree with your statement about buying the car from an independent lot. Porsches may be somebody's dream car, but they're hardly a temperamental exotic.
If these cars have been well cared for and you can get a decent service history, they are as bullet proof (and as easy to buy) as a Volkswagen or Acura.
A PPI is always a good investment, but that goes for any used car purchase.
Now, if instead of a 4 year old 911 with low miles, we were talking about a 10 year old Ferrari (similar price point) on an independent lot, then I would agree with you more readily.
But Porsches are as reliable and as easy to maintain as any mid-range sedan out there. And if dealership based maintenance is an issue, there are plenty of reputable independents available, especiually in California.
I'm on my fourth 911 (a 996 C4, a 996 TT, a 996 TT X50 and now a 997 S Cab) and I have had zero issues that I would class as 'temperamental sports car expenses'.
As hundreds in this and other forums have said: get the service history and get a PPI. Then go for it and don;t look back
Enjoy...

A few '06 Ss from autotrader. Assuming you can negotiate the price down by 5% on any of these cars, there is one low mile car that may go for $50K. All cars are out of warranty and don't have the Porsche extended warranty. There may be better deals to be had on ebay cars.

I inquired about this car when I was in the hunt back in July. I believe it was listed on ebay at the time for $53,500. I thought it was stunning. The linen paint to sample was unique and worked well with the cocoa top and full cocoa leather. I didn't even mind that it had 39K miles because the price was low. The car was in San Diego and just too far away so I moved on. You got a really nice S cab 6 sp for a great price. And, you got a third party inspection for peace of mind before you pulled the trigger. I don't believe there are many deals like this one. Well bought IMO.

Friend of mine just ppi'd a CPO'd tip, 44k Miles, 06 cab s with full leather, Sport Chrono, Adaptive Sport Seats, Bose, during the ppi found that some minor under carriage scrapings (speed bumps?), bumpers have been repainted and some body work on rear quarter panel. Dealer was asking $52k to start with, after negotiations got it down to $47.5k, after PPI he's at $44.5k. Now just a matter if my friend wants this car that has a bit of history, has all the options that he wants.
