Best places to sell

Hi All-

I know a header like mine is sacrilege, but I could use some advice.

A friend of ours father past away last month. He was the original owner of a silver 6 speed 997 coupe with 15K miles, records, immaculate. I have no other details on the car, and this is not intended as an ad for a used car.

His widow (our friends mom) is not wanting to sell it for nothing, but she has decided its unpractical and depressing to keep it. She doesn't drive stick and is perfectly happy with her current car.

What is an efficient way to sell a car like this without giving it away?

Dealership where they bought it will only take it as a trade in.

Is there some resource/solution that is more specific or specialized than autotrader.com?

Also, this is not a listing for a used car, but a solicitation for advice.

Much thanks in advance!

Eric

She could sell it to an independent lot. They often pay a little more than the trade in value of an authorized dealership but less than a private sale . I have sold two of my cars to an independent lot in the past.

I feel that there is multitude of headache in selling a high end car in general and for that reason I always trade mine in or if not trading for another car I see if the independent lots can offer a better price. They usually do --especially if the car is low mile and well kept.

A grieving widow does not need any added stress .

Thanks guys!

I appreciate the feedback. Yes, cars.com, craigslist, ebay would be fine if it were me or my friend selling it, but we are in So Cal and the car is in mid-west and my friend doesn't want his mom (also in the mid west) to have to deal with all of the inquiries, test drives, and hassles that come with selling a car private party.

The independent lot is a great idea. I will pass this information on.

Thanks again.

I don't always agree with your assessments, however, this time I feel you are spot on. Getting top dollar is not that important.

Sorry for the loss.

Car Max might be worth considering.. They're a big volume sales conglomerate, and they might have a need for the car.

Consign it to someone like RAC Performance (board sponsor) in Dallas - they sell a lot of cars and for a reasonable fee (on sale) will take it on consignment.

+1. When I bought my 997.1 earlier this year, I sold my BMW 3-series to Carmax. They ended up giving me close to the Kelley Blue Book value, and the whole deal only took about an hour.

Thanks again, everybody. CarMax seems like it offers a straightforward process for selling a car to them.

Much thanks!
