2010 Carrera or 2008 Carrera S?
hi guys, it has been over a year since my last visit here. Lately, I have been thinking about buying a 911. After searching around the local market, I found two cars that fit in the budget. 1st is a brand new 2010 911 Carrera w/ 6speed manual and other one is a ultra low km(only 3000km) 2008 Carrera S w Tiptronic.
The 2010 Carrera is listed $93000 after a $13000 instant rebate.
the 2008 CS is listed just under $80k(this one has full leather/navi/bose/tip/sports chrono)
Previously, I had test-driven a 2005 Carrera w/ 6speed and I was already very impressed with the performance even though the 325hp doesn't seem to be quite a large number nowadays. I always seek for better balance of performance rather than just the crazy HP.
My daily is a 08 m3 w/ 6speed; therefore, i would prefer PDK if i have that choice, but a 6 speed manual wouldn't bother me either.
I personally prefer the 08 because, practically, it is still a new car and the depreciation of the value has already happened to it. Also, it has all the optional equipments except probably the PCCB. However, it might be pretty difficult to say no to the new direct injection tech on the 2010 model although this Carrera seems quite basic. I guess I will find out which I like more after a test drive this weekend.
I never owned a porsche, but from what I was told, those cars are always made solid and reliable. Hopefully, I won't catch any bug.
My question is how would you guys choose in my situation? Any input would be highly appreciated. Thank you guys!

The 08 sounds way overpriced...if you're thinking of used, look hard at 06-07 cpo'd and save some cash. $60K will get you a nice 997.1 cpo car with low mileage. Do the 10 in my opinion since you lean towards pdk...$13K discount sounds very light. I've seen base 09/10's in the 85K range depending on options you're after, and you can definitely find 09 PDKs used under 80K.
Regarding depreciation, depends how long you intend to keep the car. If under 3 years, you can lease a new one for under $1k per month which about covers your depreciation curve. Porsche has additional $3k they are giving to dealers for lease buys.

I thought it all sounded over priced too, but that could be a CDN dollar thing vs USD. For example a nice base C2 should be around 93K USD and a 13K discount would put it $80K USD - that would be a great deal and a no brainer.
So I'm guessing those prices above are not USD.

thanks a lot for those replies guys.
unfortunately, I am buying in the overpriced Canadian market where money doesn't go as far as our neighbours down south. Those dealerships don't keep too much in their inventories; therefor, choices are so limited.
The 2010 C2 they have is a 6speed with pretty much no other additional options, yet the msrp is $106000 on that one before discount.
A brand new C2S with the options I am looking for would easily go over $120k before tax(12%) here. It sucks to be buying new car in Canada.
Somehow I was told the tiptronics is only a 5 speed auto? Am I wrong about that? I thought it's 6 speed auto although I was never sure about it.
