Explain DME???? What value and how is it obtained?

I see it referenced on several occasions but I don't have any real understanding.

Do some homework and then come back and ask what you don't understand. Lots of info in previous discussions. Too much to try and distill into a 1 paragraph answer.

DME = Digital Motor Electronics. It's one of several brands/types of ECUs in all cars the last 20+ years. It can be reprogramed in a # of ways, and it can record a # of things if it iis set up to do so. People on this forum seem to be most interested in the "over rev" history.

A little more detail from http://www.systemsc.com/technical.htm

"The Motronic fuel injection systems integrated the ignition control function with the fuel control function, e.g. BMW Motronic, Porsche Motronic. Digital Motor Electronics (DME) also refers to the same type of engine control system, e.g. BMW DME, Porsche DME. Both names are used interchangeably to reference these Bosch ECM (engine control module) systems which have been used on many vehicles throughout the world.

Both of these systems are fully digital and used a programmed memory (firmware) to store the fuel and ignition parameters (maps) for the full range of engine operations and could provide sequential fuel injection with cam data. Some Motronic systems use the CIS type fuel injection versus the fully electronic type (L/LH) fuel injection. Later Motronic systems added a throttle position sensor (TPS) to provide additional air intake data and supplement the air mass sensor "

I did my homework.... Put DME into search and see what you pull up.....

Thanks for the info and the start....
Is there a date associated to the "overrevving" events?

Aren't there safety features built into the computers to protect from some damage by operator abuse... How significant is an "event"? I realize that there are so many variables to that question but if an engine survives an operator mistake does that mean "no harm, no foul"?

signature65 is infamous around these parts
Basically.....anything in range 4,5,6, are considered bad. Range 1,2, & 3 are acceptable.

Yes and no. I believe the system will prevent an overrev while accelerating, but can't help you if you do something dumb like shift into 2nd when you meant to shift into 4th and cause an overrev while decelerating.
