I actually prefer the 19 wheels on my p-car with stock size rubber..although different brand of tire.
issue is not how often do you attend track, issue is how to setup car`s suspension for proper understeer/oversteer as rims and tires sizes affect it a lot and if your track wheels are completely different from stock wheels it will be a challenge.

other than that - one can run pretty much anything for street as it never will be pushed to same extremes as on track or auto-x.

My point was that if he just attends a track day for some fun and doesn't intend to become a regular..just use everything stock. Why bother with changing set ups and spending $$ if it won't become a habit. Problem is, once anyone does it once they realize the addiction.

you meant sending $$K, right?

my car is now got more than 50% of its purchase price in mods. and it does not seem to stop despite my best efforts.

Those F1 side walls are very stiff too....totally unlike a street side wall which is soft and flexes. The Toyo R888 18" tires I use are also a stiffer side walll than a street tire sidewall. Also the rules for F1 and all other racing body's have rules on tire size so just because you see a race car with whatever size tire does not mean that it is the ultimate tire or wheel size.

As for the track wheels, your OEM wheels are 11" R, how much wider do you want? Get the right tire, and if you know how to drive your car well, the OEM size will be fine. If you are trying to keep costs down, keep your OEM wheels and use them for the track, they are the lightest OEM 19" wheels that came with the 997, and will work for the few track days a year.
Thanks. I was planning on putting some track tires on the OEMs but I wanted to make sure that it made sense to do that.

Track days are a blast! Next thing you know I'll be looking for a spec racer ;-)

Toyo R888's come in stock 19" sizes and work great for driving to and from the track and they are a good track tire too...much better than Michelin Sport Cup N series in 19".

You like those better than a Hoosier R6s? Or something else?

Thanks,

Andy
