997.1 GT3 conversion to 997.2 rear LED tail lights

dear all,

big greetings from Croatia - Europe! This is really good forum which inspire me to upgrade my 997.1 GT3 to 997.2 LED tail lights.

Year of production 03/2008

Now, i have a little problem and question which i would like to clarify and hopefully gets your help!

We installed under the driver sit new control unit ( 997.618.511.01 ) for LED tail lights and connect the connects, everything fits well. I still wasnt been in Porsche service for reprograming - will do it next week. They have also gave me front unit to replace BUG interface 997.618.26.008 which we try to rechange with exist one on my car. Then the problem came, new BUG interface is dont have the same connection so we are un able to connect connectors from my car Well i call Porsh service when they told me that there is 3 different models of the BUG interface and one of them will fit...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Do i really need to change that front BUG int. in the hood when the car is 03/2008 ? Does BUG int. in my car have option to turn on LED tail lights and clear the errors on dashboard which blinks up when i give contact with key?

Brake lights, rear lights, blinkers - all is working perfect but with errors on dashboard, only tail position lights are off they dont want to work. When i turn on headlights, the rear position lights just blink for a second.

I also read alot about changing pin positions like this one;

"If your 911 is 2005-2008 You will need the 2009-present front and rear control unit. You will need to swap the No 14 to 34 and 6 to 21 in the front control unit(black) connector. But for those who were getting tail light warnings and the instrument cluster was flashing too fast you will need to swap pin (front)No 11 to 36, and pin (rear)42 to 31. You will also need to code the front and rears to accept LED's."

* this guy is mention thats have to be changed front control unit..hmmm why?

I really hope for some good and quality answer which will help sloving this mistery

Best regards,
Karlo Babic

You don't need to change out the front control unit, only the rear one under the seat. When you go into the PIWIS computer, there will be an option for LED lights in both the new rear module AND the existing front module. I have a 2005, and my front module already had the LED option.

Thank you very much for your answer. Porsche service manager is then wrong - its true that they dont have experience with this type of modifications.

2 v35,

helou once again! Today i was in Porsh service on PIWIS to turn on led lights. Well, there is a problem with turn signals ( left and right ). Hmm...They are still pop up error msg on dashboard.

Does that mean that i have to play the game with the pins on front BUG interface ? On black connector?

Anyone have the same problem? All other lights are working perfect.

So they activated BOTH front AND rear control modules from incandescent to LED? What is the problem with the turn signals. What is the error message reading on the dashboard?

The error message is like there is no bulbs. But turn signals are working just fine! The message is the same as before doing piwis.

I didnt change front fog lights to led...just rear! So i changed control unit under the driver seat. But didnt change the front modul, as connectors from my car cant match plugin part from new bug interface for models 09 - 10 year.

It does not matter if you didn't change the front lights. You still have to program both front AND rear control modules from Incandescent to LED. You do not need to change the front control module to do this, the old front module already has the LED option. Only the control unit under the seat needs to be changed. Make sure they programmed BOTH the front and rear, and not just the rear control unit only.

I have the same problem. Had the dealer program the rear only for LED and all lights work fine, blinkers blink fine, but the flashers blink too fast (not insync with actual lights). I'll get the front programmed to LED tomorrow. Thanks v35.

Anyone have a control module for under the front seat to do a 997.2 led conversion or know where I can get one? It would be much appreciated!
