DMV Renewal

I just got my DMV renemal and it is $645.00, that's how much it was when I
bought the car 4 years ago, I know California is in financial trouble but this is
nuts! Any suggestions?

Start getting used to it. The money has to come from somewhere and it isn't going to come from people on the 12% unemployment rosters. They'll continue to go after people who've worked hard, worked smart and sacrificed to get ahead because that's the easiest source of revenue with the least amount of hassle.

Except for the obvious (MOVE), I'm in a similar situation and it does suck!

Mine is $677 and it's due 1/18.

The state will have chronic budget problems for years to come so I'm on definately on the way out!

Jeez? Tag renewal in Missouri is like $30.

However, I have to pay personal property tax which is around $1000 (and that is registering in a cheaper county). Tell me you don't have to pay that too?

Thanks for all the responses, at least we don't have to pay property tax on
cars in Cali, that would send me over the edge!! It seems that we are all in
the same boat and it is slowly sinking, my father has vacation houses in other states, I'm thinking of registering out of state, any problems that might arise
from taking this action?

Right. How this state elected Gov MoonBeam back in office and has essentially a 1-party rule is beyond belief. If things are bad, they will be worse as both the Governor and the Sate Legislature will be unchallenged. Nuts!

Atlanta is pretty steep - ~ $1000, but it will drop yearly as the car ages. Nothing new either - been that way forever. Other counties in GA can be a lot cheaper. Gotta pay to play.

In NY it is like $85/year. And we don't pay a tax on our cars other than a sales tax. It is probably the only tax we don't pay. Sales tax on LI is 8.625%. On just about everything. Plus income tax, property tax, etc. No bargin living here.

$1600 for my tag on an 09 C4S in Nebraska. State is cracking down on residents who register in other states. I wonder why ...

$46/yr for mine and no personal property tax either.
It pays to live in Florida.
