Police harassment!?! WTF???

Hey guys,

I have my 997S for two weeks now and over the weekend I got pull over by the lovely NJ State Police on the NJ Turnpike for 15 minutes. BTW, I was driving very lawfully on the right lane. He gave me a hard time for having both a temporary registeration (in the back window) and the old license plate (being transfer) displayed in the back. I told him that the dealer had put them on for me. He insisted to write me a ticket for improper display of license plate and told me to ask the dealer to pay for it.

I've searched the driver's manual, and I could not find anywhere where it said cannot have both a temporary registeration with a transfering plate.
I'd called my dealer and he said they did this hundreds of times and never heard of this rule. Can someone tell me where does the law say this?

Can the police stop me for a non moving violation?

What was his problem? Is he jealous or something? Ego, power problem?

Thanks for listening to my rant.

colonel - the NJ state troopers are notorious for being A-holes from what I've heard.

Just look on the citation and see what vehicle code he referenced. Then get online and look up the vehicle code and see if what he wrote on the ticket makes sense.

I am sure that there is such a law. Was it a "fix-it" ticket? I would think you just need to take the old plate off. But the law will win.

No, it's not a fix-it ticket. It's a $48 ticket for unclear display of plates.

Jersey State Police are the only cops left in the Nation to still dress like Hitler's SS. Boots, cross straps, ect...I surpised he didn't search your car for drugs...That's the usual protocall in Jersey on the TPK.

I feel for you. I'd be pissed if that were to happen to me but, you have to look at the cop's perspective. It's confusing to look at when you have two tags displaying on your car. All he's concerned about is a current tag on display. You dealer salesperson is a dumbass for setting you up like that because he thinks he knows the law and putting both tags on your car. The tempary is the only tag needed. Now, the ultimate responsibility lies on the owner of the car to make sure you have the proper tags displayed and that's where the law will beat you. As far as the cop pulling you over for a non-moving violation every state is different and yes every state has a cop that likes to be a dick, not all of them though.

As the owner of NJ car dealerships, I must say that the PIG is correct. A vehicle can not have two plates of it, even if being transfered. If you look at your temp you will see a spot for transfering plate number. Until the reg comes back from DMV updated with the info from the 997S they should not be on the car. The plate is currently registered to the vehicle you traded in. Is the dealership responsible? Not really. Should they know better? Sure. Is the cop being a total *******? Absolutely!!!

Enjoy paying you ticket, best of luck with the new 997S.

Well, my stupid dealer agreed to reimburse the fine. I know violation is a violation, but he could have given a warning and tell me to remove the plates. Hhe is such tight a$$ that he probably give speeding tickets for anyone drove 1 mph above the speed limit!!!

I was driving to NY last year and I had to take a leak real bad. I couldnt find any close restaurents or exits so my only choice was to pull over on the side of the highway to take a leak. Out of no where I see a cop behind me with his sirens on. He calls 3 other cops, they search my car for 15 minutes and then give me a $103 ticket for pissing on the side of the highway. Dumb *** asked me why I was taking a leak I smiled and said I drank a lot of water.

What was the probable cause to search your car? Did you ask? Did he say why or ask permission to search your car? I don't think pissing on the side of a road out in the middle of no where should warrant a vehicle search. They law raped you!

Jamy, you have no clue what you're talking about. Grow up. Ever think that maybe they're responding to a burglary or robbery in progress and that they don't want to announce their arrival to the guys inside. Probably not. Why don't you go play with the neon in your truck college boy.

Everybody has a "gripe story" about the police until their car gets stolen and then they're begging for the cops to find the bastards and get their **** back. You can't have it both ways. You can't ask them to enforce just the "really bad" stuff and forget the rest. It's all or nothing. Funny how the police are you best friend when you need something from them. Have a little respect.

Are some cops a little overzealous? Absolutely. Do some have ****ty attitudes? For sure. Do I want to be riding down the highway with my wife and see some guy pissing on the side of the road like we're in some 3rd world country? Absolutely not! Keep a milk jug in your car if you got a "girly bladder". You tag was in the wrong place. Just eat it. If you want to be pissed at somebody, go scream at your dealer.

You guys kill me sometimes. You screw up and then blame somebody else. And your disrespectful in the process.

And no, Jersey State cops are not the only ones that dress like that. Most of New England dresses like that. RI and MA are famous for their uniforms.

And yes, I'd probably be trying to toss your truck too if I saw a 19 year kid pissing on the side of the road with a 70K dollar porsche truck.
