09 997.2 S (man) vs. 08 997.1s w-x51 (man)
Going back and forth between the purchase of an 08 997s with the x-51 power kit or a 2009 997 s. Both are 6-speed with similar options (less the pwr kit on the 09),price and miles. What I am wanting feedback on is which car would be the better performer overall. Looking at mostly a weekend car with minimal track time (5-10 times/ year) as I have a daily driver. I also welcome any other thoughts on which car you would choose.
Thanks
Thanks
+1 (But, I'm biased). Direct fuel injection makes a big difference.
I assume that money is not an issue.
I just bought mine recently, I had the same thoughts. It depends on what exactly you would need it for.
For a weekend car, a 2008 or 2009 would be sufficient. There is not much difference except for the price. An extra 30 hp for the 2009 at direct fuel injection? I am not sure if it is worth an extra 20T.
If this is your only car, take the 2009. If you have other cars for a daily driver, I would advice the 2008 or even a 2007. Nobody can tell you yours is less of a porsche if they have a 2009. You just make sure to buy a ow mileage, well taken cared for P car, with CPO of course.
hey, we all know this is just one of your weekend toys. It would also prevent you from getting hit with the depreciation fever. 10T per year.

+1 - unless there is some big price delta that makes the '08 a better deal.
Taking the price variance out, would the performance be better with the 997.1 s w/ x-51 or with the 997.2s? Torque, Acceleration, ect..

I went through the same thought process. I drove an 07 CS, an 08 CS, an 08 CS X51 and an 09 CS. I decided that I wouldn't trade my 09 Cayman S with PDK for either of the 08s or the 07. The 09 CS 6 sp was enough to get me to trade.
Driven both --997.2S is quicker and the DFI engine has an immediate response. If you really want that extra low end torque it's the 2010 Gt3 . if you want to compensate a bit then an 09 PDK will shift faster and a 997.2 can be modified but it still won't be a Gt3. As long as you prefer manual .. gt3 is the car and its not on your list.

I would throw out that the cars are very close in performance, but the X51 is special. It will likely hold resale value better. The '09 is nothing special, other than a newer car. Just a thought. Depends what stirs your fancy. I prefer to have something unique and exotic.
