Just discovered Harbor Freight
Can't believe I hadnt found this place sooner. Its like a candy store for DIY guys. Unfortunately, my battery went dead b/c my car is a weekend warrior. Found a battery charger/jumper, a float battery trickle charger to keep it topped off. On my way out found a racing jack and a torque wrench. With my coupons I was out the door for 60 bucks! Along with a free LED flashlight. Told my wife to go buy to find some things to stuff my stocking with for Christmas morning.
they have 20% off coupons in the back of Car and Driver....
I've bought a lot of stuff there- seems fine for the average weekend mechanic- may not be professional grade but good enough to get the job done!

Yeah, be really careful with any tools you put a load on. I had a pair of spring compressors break - fortunately the load was off them but the metal and forging is suspect. I'm not sure about electronics either - I wouldn't put them on my car, not worth the chance. Some stuff is good and the price is great.
+1. It's just the truth. You CAN find some decent stuff there if you shop judiciously (and have the right timing for certain items) but by and large you are buying expendables, not long-term tools. Many of which I would NOT use on my car.

China actually makes some of the highest quality equipment in the world now. Unfortunately, none of it is sold at Harbor Freight. They do nothing but promote the stereotype of "Chinese Crap" & "you get what you pay for".
