K&N - First Mod.

Finally did my first mod to my 08 997.1 C2. Installed the "K&N 57 Series Cold Air Intake" WOW! - What a difference. Simple install – Highly recommend.

Got one as well....power may be negligible....but the sound! the sound difference alone is well worth it!

Yep, true. I've got one on both my cars, and sure it's about 90% sound, but the total experience is dramatic as hell.

Yeah, they really just give you sound and no power, but the sound is intoxicating.

Noise is not noticeable at idle and/or with light throttle (good thing in my opinion). Power and audible difference is noticeable in the mid to upper RPM range (over 3000 RMP). I was reluctant thinking that the noise would be too much or that under light throttle the character of the car would be different, but I’m glad I did. It feels like the car can finally breathe correctly, like if it just got over a bad cold. LOL

The only custom work was a self tapping screw on a small "L bracket" used to support the heat shield. You will see it in the pics. The kit is for 996 and 997 and the bracket can’t go where it specifies (next to the latch).

Soon we'll be able to buy a digital sound maker (similar to what is being used on the electric cars) to simulate the airbox noise. Since the cold air boxes don't generate any noticable power, sound maker would be great alternative + no fouled MAF's and no filter to clean and re-oil.

Does this mod effect our warrantee?
How can it be called cold air? I like how the factory intake nabs air from the fin.

I'm trying to figure this one out. This mod did not make anybody's top 5 mod lists in a thread either here or over at Rennlist six months or so ago. The company's claims of HP increase seem likely to be exaggerated. The before/after sound comparison on a BMW install somebody posted on Youtube isn't very impressive. At least one jobber that resells this product states that it is illegal in CA (in contrast to what is stated on the K&N website). And, if as K&N claims, this significantly increases combustion, it is not an idle question as to whether this affects warranty. I'd be most interested in hearing the thoughts of others who have done this type of mod (there are several companies selling various analogous products).
