Dension Bluetooth and iPod Kit
Dension Bluetooth and iPod Kit
I just purchased the Bluetooth and iPod integration Gateway 500 combo kit for my 07 C4S cab. I don't want to attempt the install myself so what should I expect to pay for installation? Does anyone know of any good/experienced installers in So Cal?
Thanks,
Jon

jamie rawling (monrovia) does a very clean installation.. for a premium price.
lost his contact number.. but eric from bumperplugs should have his number.
wheel dynamics (monterey park) can also install it for u.. its cheaper.. but the install quality is about as good as u doing it urself..

Install is truly an easy DIY, takes just an hour or so, no soldering is needed. No kidding, the hardest part is slidding your battery to the side the get the mic wire through the grommet behind your pedals.
So, you can DIY, or pay a shop their hourly rate to do it. Knowing I can do it in an hour, I'd not pay more then $75 for a shop to install it.

Can someone with the Dension Bluetooth unit comment on how they like it? How is the functionality/quality? Any issues with it? I heard the user interface is not user friendly.

I think anyshop thats going to take responsibility for damaging panels etc is going to ask more than $75 to install it - I would guess $200 - I would be ok with that

Yeah I have a quote from around that. Do you have it installed in your car with bluetooth?
Please don't take this as an insult Cattman, but placing it out under the bonnet is the easy way out, and is really done for the marketing to address the DIYers. it should be placed inside the vehicle, but requires more work that most DIYers wouldn't attempt, or the instructions would need to be longer. there are several other factors such as degraded bluetooth reception and the microphone receiving interference from proximity to the battery
Not as daunting as you may think.
As I posted years ago for inside install, in my 06S
Just need to slide out PCM, to tap into Fios and power/ground, in addition to my Pictures.

I did this DIY and it was very very easy using some of the DIY's on this site and others. I could probably do it in 30min if I had to. The only pain is going to the dealer to get the cd changer port activated if you dont already.

I just had mine installed over the holidays. Paid $600 for package and $270 for gateway 500 + bluetooth package installation. Ran cord through center armrest and has a holder for ipod. Also have access to jump drive and other inputs in glove box for future use.
As for functionality, I'm still on the fence with it. The interface is usable, but wonky. The bluetooth is about as good as the OEM in my X5.
