If you've ever had tires in that condition and "burned through lot of those tires in this lifetime" fine then more power to you. My life means more to me than $250.

Per the previous post, and my experience on lots of high performance/HP cars, I've never had tires that looked like that. I'd replace them or drive like a grandma.
May be you want to look up tirerack.com. From his picture, he is using michelins and asuming he is running 19" Michelin fronts, they are 369 even before shipping. So I am guessing around 800 bucks for both fronts with shipping. That beind said he asked for advice and I gave what I have experienced...I have dealt with a lot of michelins and those cracks appear on Michelins more often than any other brand, infact I havent seen cracks like those in any other brand...and yes, I have been through a lot of those tires...and his tires seem just fine to me... I would ride on them no problem, they are not going to blow up on the interstate ...so, i m not here to value anyones life as they are all invaluable but still from an experience perspective I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with those tires....

Its like on a great sunny day if you were inspecting your tires and saw a nail in one of them, you pull the nail out and the tire doesnt leak, you thank god that the nail didnt go all the way through...now, is there something wrong with the tire and would you replace it given that there was a nail in it? heck no! I wouldnt replace it .....so why replace it here...? may be some of you will but that is just paranoia to me....

second pic looks like it was tracked.

first pic has pretty big cracks.

with tires at 50-60% life, it's really not worth installing. quality installation is fairly expensive in my neighborhood.

Well you're entitled to your opinion. Given those prices (I was assuming 18s), and that they're over 50% worn, then you're basically looking at eating half of that at most or $400. Not worth it to me, and a lot of other people share that sentiment. But you're entitled to your opinion!

Why don't you forward that photo to Michelin Customer service to see what they say about it? If you are trying to gather data points for a decision, I think that one could be useful and important.

If they tell to replace them, then do it. If they tell you no issue and you still feel uncomfortable, replace them. These cars are all about the driving feel and so much of that comes from the tires. Can't see shelling out for a 911 and then hobbling it. That's just me though.

I bougt a set on ebay, rears are almost brand new.. no cracks or anything perfect.. but the fronts had the cracks all the way around, $250 actually for the fronts, the ebay listing picture did not look like that and seller told me they were perfect.. I had the car at the dealership on thursday and that same day received those tires to get them put on my car friday , I was in a hurry because the week before I sold my 18" wheels, so I had no time to hunt around, dealer quoted me $330 each tire including mounting and balancing, at the end I think they charge me also for balancing the tires.. but oh well.. you guys are right, thats why I ask because I was worried and didnt want to have an accident.. now the guy doesnt even want to give me a refund saying that I was able to see the cracks on his pictures, the best he can do is do an exchange...
I am not dumb, if he had those pictures showing the bad cracks or at least some info about the condition saying it had cracks I wouldnt buy them sure

Try disputing it thru ebay or ask your credit card to charge it back.

I would only buy used tires in mint condition in person. Too much unknown why buying online.

i would not recommend buying used tires from anyone other than a tire store in person, where you can drive straight back if they are faulty. lots of people unload tires for a reason. buyer beware!

and most tires have a date on them , its the week and the year. eg (0208 ) would be the january 7-13, 2008.

Plus 1 for stevepow's advice. You will be pleased with the amount of advice & information that Michelin will provide you. Remember it's the tires that stop the car not the brakes.

Without tires your car is worthless. Do not skimp out on what matters most, safety first not to mention performance

+1000000 that's the way I look at it.Tires are the only thing connecting your car to the road. If you're going to spend money anywhere, spend it on tires.

I had 6 year old Michellin PS2s on my car when I bought it. They were cracking on the outside edges and they drove like hockey pucks compared to what I have now. Even though there were lots of tread left, the first thing I did was buy a new set of Bridgestones.
