Please help, DME results, are they ok or not? buying an 06 997
hey guys,
Could you please tell me if this sounds normal, i am considering purchasing a a 2006 997 C2 S
The DME read out shows:
number of ignitions, range 1: 305 385.5 h
number of ignitions, range 2: 87 385.5 h
number of ignitions, range 3: 19 253.2 h
number of ignitions, ranges 4, 5, 6 are all blank.
operating hours counter: 511.800
the rest of the porsche dealer's PPI shows perfect, except for the battery which was replaced. Vehicle has 15K miles on it, single owner. carfax, carcheck all of that shows perfect.

that is less than 1 second at range 1...approx 1/3 of a sec at range 2
and 6/100ths of a second in range three...if you ask me this is less than normal...since it also has so many other pluses you better buy it

My car came with more ignitions than that in ranges 1-3. It was CPOd by Porsche.
The engine eventually failed (not due to the over-revs) and they gave me a new one under the CPO.
I agree with GT3 Chuck. Sounds okay to me.
Ask the dealer you plan to use for service for their opinion. Ask them if they would expect any issues. Ask them what seems normal.
Good luck shopping. Hope it's the right car for you.

Thanks for your comment. I already put a deposit on it and am thinking of getting an easycare warranty. The dealer I'm buying it from is not a porsche dealer but the porsche service tech (who happens to be the service manager) did say they would CPO it in a heartbeat if it it was theres. My biggest worry really is the engine, why did yours fail?

Porsche never did tell me why they thought it failed. But they did tell me what failed.
A thrust washer broke which allowed the crank to wobble which messed everything up. It was too expensive to fix so they gave me a new engine.
My DME report wasn't bad, but it had more over-revs than yours and my dealer service manager was aware that I track the car and told Porsche that. He also gave them the service history and told them that I took good care of the car. He also pointed out that the over-revs were from the previous owner.
My story ended well. Share some pictures with us when you get the car. Good luck.

Great find and that is a clean DME. Taken as face value, the car looks like it was not abused if driven at all. My 05 has 3x more mileage, 3x more hours and 3x more R1s, but less R2s (75) and R3s (3). However, I have one (1) ignition in R4 and R5 at 300 hrs and the car is running strong at +40K miles with no major issues. Ask the dealer/repair facility if they checked the condition of cable between the battery and starter. There is a known issue which causes pre-mature battery replacement - this would also be listed on the service history if addressed.
