Anyone hardwire a V1 in their convertible Carrera?

I wanted to get it done, so I will actually use it more, but unsure if there are any issues. Also, if you can use the light near the mirror or does it need to be done some other way.

Dealership did mine in about 15 mins. They can wire to the dome light over your windshield or run a wire to the fuse box on the lower left of drivers side (I think)

no issues, why? you just be very careful with that dome light and wires when you`ll do welding job there.

I wired mine to the dome light, everytime I open the door the V1 powers down and powers up again when the door is shut. I've been meaning to rewire to the fuse box.
It has even set off the alarm after forgeting to shut it off, locking the doors and walking away. Alarm sounds and I remember to shut off the V1.

Anyone else see this??

you were supposed to get V1 wired to a switchable power source, one that powers up ONLY after ignition is switched on. it does not sound like it.

Yes, I hard wired mine to the fuse box...

You can barely see the box itself here just above and to the right of the rear view mirror:

and the remote display behind my insp/emission stickers

Takes about 30 min to do and there are a number of blank switched positions in the fuse box to plug into (using a 1/4 male crimp on terminal). IIRC I used position D3 but it'll be different in a coupe though. Anyhow, you need a philips head screwdriver (to remove the carpeted fuse box surround - where there is plenty of space to hide the V1 converter & fuse), a couple of torx bits (T30 and T20) to remove the sun visor, and a long handled flat head to release the clip at the base of the A-pillar trim. The only other thing I did, using a small drill bit, was notch a small cut out in the fuse box surround where the wire comes from behind the panel to plug into the front side by the fuses. I'd post a pic of that but my car is covered and in storage for another month or two...

So, it only turns on when the ignition is on and off when the ignition is off.

I plugged mine into the fuse panel on the left side of the drivers foot well. I ran it out the back of the panel & then ran the wire under the moulding & it pops out by the mirror. It's been there for 4 1/2 years & has never failed me yet.

Yea I know, the node that I attached it to was hot all the time (I thought). Until the door opens, then the 12v node floats, effectively shutting the V1 off. This has worked with every automobile I've had. Not the 911....

Have you looked at the dome light PC board, talk about overkill??

I couldn't find a suitable Gnd node, or a +12v one that turns off when the ignition is off. So, i need to rewire to the panel. No Big deal, except my car is snowed in now too, so I'll do it this spring.

it`s not that bad there, hmm, i mean - look what is around ECUs to compare. I totally forgot what reference material I used to get a switchable power from the dome. if you have dimmed mirror you should definitely have it there.

check what wires did you use. it is simple enough to fix it.

that one was the thread i used for my install:

You can use this to add a circuit to a fuse that you know is dead when the key is out: Pico 0956pt Mini Fused Circuit 16 Awg 10a http://www.amazon.com/Pico-0956pt-Mi.../dp/B001QRSBW0 or you can use this: http://www.opentip.com/Electronics-C...p-1131925.html Mini-ATM fuse tap/100PK.You can buy them @ NAPA for ~ $0.10 per tap.

Run the ground to a nut near the top of the pedals.

porsche91178,

That's his remote that is on the left dash. The V-1 is to the right & above his mirror. The top photo shows the bottom of the V-1.

OC Pcar,

I have this mount for my V-1:

http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/Conn...arDetector.htm

I was her first Porsche customer & she used my pics on her web site:

http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/350Z/porsche.htm

Here is a newer option that is out that I think is better:

New Product, Valentine One Mounting Bracket (G Bracket) for Porsche 997 by G Rides

Good luck & drive safely,
