I started my 911 quest by looking for a nicely optioned 911 C2S and then I feel in love with the wide body look. After a couple of weeks, the boss raised my car budget (translation wife said I can spend more) and we have been looking at C4S' in the 65-75K price range and then we drove a few turbo's in the 75-85K range. The TT's can be had with low miles and there seem to be quite a few of them around. So...... assuming the cars are clean and within a few dollars (and the wife doesn't change her mind), would you buy a 2007 TT or a 2009-2010 C4S and why?

As an aside, I drove both yesterday and have a few thoughts on the differences; however I am new to 911's and I thought posting this in the 997 section (rather than the TT section) would yield honest results.

 

You will get the following as this has been hotly debated here and in other forums.

Drive both and see what appeals to YOU. The NA feel of the C4S or the back in your seat feel of the TT.

The first question I would ask however is why you are only considering 4wd. This will be a year round DD?

 

Btw. I don't see many 2010 C4S in that price range of 65-75k.

 

The 2010 was a little higher (private). Handful of 2008's in that range. I should have clarified. Thanks.

As mentioned, I did drive both. First the C4S and then the TT. I loved the linear feel of the C4S and the weight/feel of the wheel. The clutch had nice action/release and the car was very planted and predictable. The TT felt lighter at the front and the clutch was def lighter as well; I would say the TT was a little numb compared to the C4S. But...... the TT is just so fast it's not even funny.

Both have pro's and cons but I really need to decide if I like the overall package of the C4S (newer model, updated) v. the TT.

 

Based on your test drives and quotes I would go for the C4S. Especially if you are going to keep the car a long while. C4S, especially the 997.2 versions is a very fast car. Not quite a TT but no slouch.

If they were exactly the same price and options, I would go with the TT, can't argue with more power. I've never understood the, "my wife will let me buy" comments, unless she brings home the bacon, she shouldn't even have a say. I guess I'm just old fashion. I work hard, I get what I want. Yes I am married.

I've never driven a Turbo, and I know that once I did, I'd want one. A Turbo Cab, oh boy, can't even imagine. I've driven a 2010 C4S with PDK...interrupted power, sooo planted. Kind of a modern-day 959 ?

 

Ynot, I tend to agree with you as you can't argue with more power.

As to the "my wife will let me buy it" comments, lets just say I have a little problem when it comes to cars and I find its best that I have her support, or at least not her opposition to the pending purchase. It is also a respect thing. Just makes things a little easier at home. Do I work hard, pretty successful and have the means to bring home a brand new TT without her approval, yes. Does this mean I should do it? Not in my opinion. In my opinion, I think your view is a little old fashion, but I respect it. To each their own. If I was comparing a 997.1 TT to a 997.1 C4s, I would take the TT hands down! If you were comparing it to a 997.2 C4s it would be a different story. I faced the same dilemma when buying my car and I chose the car with the newer technology, though it might be a little slower. The newer technology being things like PDK transmission. It truly makes the car perform great! Couple mods and you can keep right up with a 997.1 TT!

i agree as i said above...the 997.2 does narrow the power gap somewhat.
