Porsche Battery Maintainer
Porsche Battery Maintainer
I just purchased a Porsche battery maintainer (not the newer dual mode version) for my 2008 Carrera S. I installed the battery maintainer in the cigarette lighter per instructions and set the car alarm. I went out to start the car after about a week of non use and the car had gone into sleep mode (but started). I thought by using the battery maintainer it would keep the car from going into sleep mode. Is this normal, or do you think the battery maintainer is faulty? Thanks!
Keep an eye on the water level in the battery. The Porsche battery is not a sealed unit. A sticker covers over the top of the battery fill plugs. You will need to add distilled water a couple of times a year.
I do not think that is normal. During the winter I mothball the Carrera for five months, and I also use the Porsche battery maintainer (though mine is dual-mode) plugged into the cigarette lighter. Once a month I go out and start the car and move it a few inches, and I have never had the car go into "sleep mode". I had no idea there even was such a thing.

If anyone is shopping for a battery tender do Yourself a favor and buy a CTEK branded unit and skip the identical, but X3 as expensive, Porsche branded model.
