Extended Warranty? Is it worth it?
My 997 C4S just had its 4th birthday on February 13th! I was offered extended warranty through the dealer by a company called Easycare. its about $3500 for an additional 3 years or 100,000km with a $100 deductible. I currently have about 45,000km. Is this really worth it? I just had my complete clutch replaced under warranty(clutch, flywheel, pressure plate) because of a crack in the pressure plate about 4 months ago.
I just don't see the point in paying for things before i actually need them. Am i wrong? Opinions?

There's no right or wrong answer, just comes down to how risk adverse you are. Just like any other insurance the numbers say that buying the coverage is negative expected value. As such, if you have the means to self insure (have the funds to pay for any repairs) - that is you best option from a dollar ev perspective.
When my car came off warranty at 35,000 miles I did an EasyCare warranty that added 4 years and went to 80,000 miles for about $2,500 with a $200 deductible. Over the 4 years it save me about $2,000 so it did not really pay for itself (like most insurance) but was nice to have. Is the offer they have made you 3 years and an additional 60,000 km, or just to 60,000km which is only 15,000 km more. If the former it is not a bad deal for the peace of mind it gives you. On these cars $3,500 doen't go far for a repair.
Warranty would be up to 100,000km, so and additional 55,000 in my case. I'm on the fence because it just seems like a waste forking out the dollars in advance, I guess I'm really wondering what the risks are? How bad can things get?
The right question to ask is how likely is this to happen?
My opinion - not very likely at all.
What is the cost of replacing the engine? tranny? What is the probability of each happening? both happening?
If anyone knows this information, we could help the OP calculate if it would make sense.

1. The premium is calculated for the masses. If you're confident you're much harder on your car than most (and that's not reflected in a coverage questionnaire, etc.) , you might be buying the insurance cheap, and creating positive expected value.
2. You may have other non-economic considerations (such as remorse for not having bought insurance in the case that you have repairs).
If only gauging mods on dyno charts was so straightforward...
I think a lot of what you are paying for is peace of mind, which is a good thing. Then you can forget about the money and enjoy your car, instead of looking for problems and worrying if something is going wrong.
I like extended warranties because they give you a clear cost of ownership, no surprises.
Hey Danny,
I usually don't care about extended warranty, travel insurance, etc.
Then my ex-997C2S (sold to my brother) got an IMS problem, 2 months after the expiration of factory warranty. Fortunately my brother bought the Easycare plan, so the new engine and repair costs are all covered.
I'm now a firm believer of Easycare. Got it on the club coupe. Will get it on the CTT end of this year.

I always buy an extended warranty for the above reason and they are usually transferable enhancing the next owner's peace of mind.
I don't buy extended warranties on anything - but these cars. I bought a CPO 996 and my 997tt is also CPO. In the last year I owned the 996, I went through an AC compressor, coil pack and 02 sensor + associated cat.
When the CPO ran out, I bought the 997.
These cars are expensive to fix.
