X51 headers as next step?

Hey guys,

I just installed the AWE cats and cans and I have commented in another post I absolutely love them. Fantastic sound all the way through WOT without being obnoxious when crusing at 2000-3000 rpms. And no drone. Great fit and finish and shockingly easy to do.

I was contemplating adding the X51 headers from suncoast and wanted to hear some opinions.

Not tracking the car so i know it is not necessary...but then again what is necessary on an already fantastic car!

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Here's what I've read and gathered, but it is not first-hand, scientific, presented as fact, etc

1) the only true power gain is with high flow cats. Sound is louder
2) mufflers add sound, but zero power. Aftermarket mufflers usually reduce weight. IMHO, this is way overblown, as the weight difference doesn't move the overall needle in power/weight, for the $ involved.
3) headers add sound and move the power and torque curves, but don't necessarily increase overall power or torque. However, X-51 or have some positive effect on power over stock on an S, but not so much for a base Carrera. Sound is also louder.

Again, IMHO, if you like the sound that you have now, don't make any changes. If you want more volume, go for headers before mufflers, but be mindful of the shift in power and torque.

On the 'S' the stock headers suck. I have the X51 and am happy with them. However, If you already have AWE, why not complete their package and get their headers? Exhaust systems are better looked at as a whole and mixing and matching components may not lead to expected results. By getting their complete package you know it's tuned to all work properly together.

Ive actually read that in terms of bang for the buck the x51 headers are a better value.

X-51 is the better value in comparison to some of the other aftermarket headers. It was an even better value when it was only $600 dollars a few yrs back!
