engine swap instead of FI

those who want to spend about of $10K on a turbo/charger - check out this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...Q5fAccessories

a proper gt3 motor for a bit less than $13K. obviously it will require some extras, but, it is definitely something to consider.

yep, it was... someone got lucky.

i think if my gt3 urge will get out of control I will do something like that, if $15K or heckj with it $20K extra will buy a proper gt3 motor, installed - I cannot see why the hell not.
at same time it would be great to replace that 'Carrera' on the rear deck with 'Frankenstein'. That would look plain awesome.

Would our japanese tranny bolt up to that motor? I would think the ECU etc would be a problem as well??

no clue. new ECU would definitely be a must, tranny - not sure, i think I heard of some cayman guys doing such stuff. still transmission costs less than a motor and is somewhat easier to find.

probably it may need gt3 transmission, or may be not. i hope i will not get crazy to such degree to actually do it, but it is a fun topic to specualte about. it is obvious this sale was quite an oddity, somebody just got very lucky, well, if that motor does indeed exist and is in workable shape.

You would need the Engine/Trans/Wiring Harness and ECU... And no guarantees on how good the engine is... Plus at the end of the day you only have 355whp. Props if someone does it.

I agree, it's 12.5K for the engine alone, who knows how much more it'll cost to get it up and running properly. A turbocharger will be around 13K installed and get much more hp. Too much labor, too much money, and not enough hp, doesn't sound like a deal to me.

it's a moot point since it's sold but just so i understand engine swapping logistics...the ad said "385 hp at the rear wheels". is there something in the swap/ECU that lowers it to 355?? or is that a mistype above?

one who decides to go crazy can go loooong way. it`s all fun, just different amount of money.

GT3 engine can be bored to 4L, if one decided to complete this abomination it is possible to FI it as well, more you see custom race cars more you realize that there is no limit on what people can do. fitting GT3 engine into street 997 tub is not even such big of a deal. a bit financially stupid perhaps, but certainly doable.

wanna see an extreme one - here it is:

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...1-gt3-cup.html

1974 tub with 996 gt3 cup drivetrain. that is quite trickier to do.

996 GT3's consistently make 355-360 corrected on dynojets... SJ, our cup car, the 36 in teh showroom makes ~380whp after lightyears of massaging. IIRC 996.2 GT3s were rated at 380.

def a mistype.

Heh, then buy it - it will be quite fun. I think Bill will even be able to support it.

I am even afraid to think of maintenance nightmare with such car, that is what real frankenstein is all about. but probably nothing some $xxK would not solve.

BTW I think Bill has a very similar car in his shop right now, an old tub with cup car motor in it.

Waste of time and money, just sell the Carrera and buy a GT3. The tranny is different, it has been discussed in the GT3 forum, as some have wondered why Porsche hasn't just bolted in the PDK tranny to a GT3.
