3rd Radiator and Grill Screens

just an overdue note on the 3rd radiator and screens i put on my 2009 C2S / PDK.

the car was running hot at the track so i put on the rad and the "super hot country" ventilation from porsche. yes, that's what they call it. it's got more ventilation in the wheel well, some ducting, etc. you'll note also that i put a light coat of paint on the rads esp because the front one really showed up in the middle.

i got the screens from cargraphic after looking everywhere & thinking about the best materials to fab them from. for about $150, i got screens perfectly shaped, perfect material, etc.

i'll have to relocate my laser shifters from behind the screen but besides that, i'm really enjoying it.

the guys in the photos are sergey and wes from Barrier Motors in Bellevue. a bit of custom work there from them, hence the shout out. no affiliation.

yes, it sucks, but with the new tolls, it's a fine and a moving violation not to have a plate...the decal works best for me though and looks better from a distance

It's always been a (possible) fine for no front plate - where did you read that tolling changes this? If you have a "Good To Go! Pass" on your windshield it was my understanding that you were ok (except for Tacoma Narrows Bridge).

What do you mean "except for Tacoma Narrows Bridge"? I just went through the GotoGoPass lane a couple of weeks ago from DS at Bremerton. I assumed the Windshield mounted pass worked there.....

BTW - I love the screen and may do it with Barrier as well as the added radiator.

Actually for the way the whole State is going, having a "GTG" pass will be the norm if you travel around a lot or simply want to pass bridges, new tunnels, etc., etc., without hassle. But with that being said; I have never worn a front plate, I never will never wear a front plate and absolutely no toll assessment system will require you to have a front plate.

It IS a requirement of the State that vehicles be equipped with front plates, but being pulled over is strictly a personal call on the officers part and is usually, because of their schedules, is a waste of their time unless you are breaking laws, to pull over for that slight of an infraction.

In twenty five years of different vehicles, even with increased police coverage, I have only been pulled over twice. Each time, after telling them the plate had been removed for detailing and had yet to be re-installed, I received a warning to have in re-installed.

Brendo, did you see how the bumper came off? Could you do it again yourself next time, if you needed?

it's MUCH faster now. I'm probably only about 3 seconds per lap slower than you now

i got the screens directly from cargraphic http://www.cargraphic.de/index.php?/...,article,4414/

not sure if that one is for 997.1 or 997.2 but you can call them. they were very easy to deal with and shipped the screens right away.

as i recall, the radiator and ductwork was about $1400. the "kit" is really just the increased venting and i think the rad is separate. it's a silly designation. here's a pic below - may help you with the part numbers or i could shoot a mail to my parts guy. PM me if you like, mike.

a few communities on the eastside of seattle, esp Bellevue, have been pulling over 6-12 cars at a time for front plate violations. the issue, as i've been told is that it's a revenue grab, of course, but also that if people do not have the G2G pass, they send a bill for the tolls based on the plate. hence, they are ensuring front plates are on the cars.

Hmmm....interesting point....my DD is a 2003 E320 that I bought new and never had the holes drilled for front plates. I have gotten several tickets in that time but never cited for missing plates....however, your point (and a really good one at that) is that with GTG this may become a requirement they will nail me for no having a front plate moving forward....Damn, I would hate to drill the holes after all of these years.

on the bumper, it's pretty straighforward. the tricky part is these clips near the headlights that you need a small pick to pull out. and clamping the hose for the headlamp cleaner is a trick that the techs have. not a big deal but the clips.

regarding your front plate, bellevue, WA pulls over lots of cars and it's not always jsut for profiling, but they do use it as an excuse for that. iirc it's $124 and 2 points on your license. you'll frequently see 2-3 motorcycle cops near an onramp pulling over cars 6 at a time and writing tickets.

It is a BS ST. of WA fear monger tactic. Drill if you want. I wouldn't.

Thank you for the notes on the removal.

Regarding the front plate. I spend a lot of time in MI, Bellevue and Kirkland on business and leisure, I don't normally take the onramps unless it is off-peak, there are plenty of alternative ways to beat the gridlock and obvious revenue frame-ups by the M/C cops.

I would rather pay 125 or write a letter to magistrate explaining the plate, show proof that it was replaced and have it reduced or removed completely than put it on in the first place. Like I said, twenty five years, two times pulled,,, I'm not trying to turn your thread into an obstinate 'plate' topic, but it is just another tactic by the already hugely deficit St.of WA., to drain funds from the People anywhere and anyway they can.

Stand for your rights and speak out or lie down and be controlled. You cannot be heard if your do not say anything!
