991 will be a 2013 Model with Feb. 2012 debut.

997.2 and misc special editions will make up stop-gap 2012 lineup.

That's what I heard today from a reliable source.

 

Makes sense. This is the time of year that we begin to see the following year models hit, which 2012 997s are already showing up as incoming inventory.

 

So they hit Feb 2012, and by spring 2013 dealers will be offering $18k off MSRP making a base Carrera $72k with some options.

 

You are talking about leftover 997.2? I don't think the 991 base Carrera will be anywhere near $72K.

 

Pretty sure he's talking about 997.2s having deep discounts once 991s are announced. 997.2S starting just under $90 should be selling well below $80 once the 991 is announced.

I would also suspect that Porsche will have some strong programs to get as many 997s moved before EOY, so 997 supply will be short in 1H12, decreasing the chances of deep discounts. Right now they are really working the 18/24 month lease deals in order to set themselves up for new 991 deliveries shortly after the initial launch demand subsides.

 

Same thing i heard from the dealership when I was there for oil change last weekend. 991 will arrive on Feb2012 as a 2013 model. They've stopped production on GT3 and will be coming out with a GT3 Special Edition. Porsche is a master of marketing.

i think the US will find a sticker shock for the 991 when they finally adjust for the currency decline; that would hold the 997.2 values a bit.

 

Anyone know where I can find details?...or even speculation?

 

I've never seen a model launch in February .
Unless that's the European debut (often a few months before the states).

 

My dealer says October. I guess time will tell.

What's attracting you to the 991?

 

I wish you were right but that's highly unlikely given that it's making it's world debut in Frankfurt on Sept 13th.

What I've heard around the grapevine is that orders will be taken soon after Frankfurt, for early Spring 2012 delivery.

 

This is inline with what I was told by my dealer Tuesday as he gave me
an update on my C2S build & delivery dates, late May & late June .
