I just leased my GTS a month ago, but am actually considering 'refinancing' through my CU. With the rates as low as they are, I can actually reduce my payment almost $100/month.

The only thing holding me back is the concern about loss of value when the 991 comes around. On the flipside, I really do have intentions of keeping this one when the lease expires (even though the wife thinks I'm FOS when I tell her that), and if that ends up being the case, I'm much better off taking a loan against it now rather than 24 months from now.

I guess the answer to the question all depends on your plans for the vehicle: if it's short-term: Lease. Long-term: Buy.

.
Please explain, I don't understand how you can refinance a lease without huge penalties.

Leases through Porsche Financial have payoffs associated with them. You can simply purchase the vehicle straight from Porsche if you ever choose. No penalties (that I'm aware of). I called Porsche Financial earlier this afternoon to confirm.

sorry to hear.. perhaps problems due to the twin-turbo engine?

i had the 335 and the TT engine was notorious for fuel pump problem.

I have always walked away with cash when I sold my cars at lease ends, except for the Porsche. My previous cars were 2 E46 M3s I leased and right before lease turn in I sold them. On my 01 M3 I walked away with almost $5k in cash and my 04 M3 it was almost $7k.

Leasing makes sense in my opinion if you can take advantage of the tax benefits leasing can provide us self-employed folks. If the only way you can afford the car is by the lease payment vs. the purchase payment then it is probably not a good idea to lease. Also, lease a vehicle that holds its value well...something the Porsche doesn't do to well.

My problems with the 535 include the famous high pessure fuel pump, the fuel pressure sensor, the injectors, the pump control module, the vanos solenoids, the turbocharger and wastegate. This is in addition to a low rent factory paint job. None of this is new technology and BMW is still learning. The -28 engines have inadequate torque at low and mid range revs. And those engines lose the great sound when combined with the AT. Don't get me started on the runflats.
