On the fence 997 question???

Hi everyone.
I am new to this forum and I have several questions. I hope to be educated and perhaps persuaded while I am here. Here is my situation, I have always admired the Porsche and never seriously thought of purchasing one until recently. I am pre qualified and ready to buy but I have several reservations. I am looking at a 2006 Porsche Carrera possibly a S, it would be my primary commuter car. Can some one educate me on the maintenance cost of what I am looking to get myself into here. If possible can someone break down the required factory maintanace and tell me how much it will cost?(ball park figure.) I drive about 12-15k a year. I have seen the website, but is a Porsche really a everyday driver friendly car? I am not looking to race it or anything like that I am looking forward to rewarding myself and enjoying the feel of ownership. I feel like I have to make a decision here but I still feel like I am on the fence. Please help....

Rear tires are a big expense as they wear out quickly (7-12K miles) . Oil changes cost more than on many typical cars but the intervals are longer . Every two years the fluids and filters need replacmemt.

A key factor is whether the car has CPO warranty or not .Also important is the previous wear as well as whether or not the last owner kept the car well.

Estimating and Rounding .. .. a car with a warranty might cost between 1500-3K a year .

A car with no warranty ? Too hard to guess ...

Out of wararnty = cheaper to buy .. but with greater exposure to the risk of repair costs .

CPO = more expensive to buy = no guarantee that an older car won';t break .. but at least if it does .. the owner has coverage.

Maintenance was one of my major concerns when I bought my pcar. Below are some links that helped me.

Many people DD the 911. You either find them with tons of miles or no miles! LOL. We use ours for weekends and track days as we both have DDs already. If you can do your own oil changes then it is a simple task on this car and you can save a bunch. A CPO car is nice and you should be able to get an 06 with one.

Good luck!
