High Mileage
High Mileage
My first Porsche was a 2001 Boxster S which I bought new and put over 60k miles before selling it and jumping into a 2005 997 C2. I then put a 25K miles on that car before buying my 2007 C4S cab CPO'd with 26K miles. I tend to want a new car upgrade every 4-5 years but hear about people putting high mileage on their cars (100K miles) and keeping them happily for years and years. I am finally satisfied with my car (power, options, engine, performance) and it's my DD. I'm considering to try and live with this awesome car for the next 6-7 years and try not to get the itch to keep the mileage low in order for my next upgrade. Anyone just totally satisfied with their current car and wanting to drive it to the "high mileage" club? I know these cars can go forever, are meant to be driven and have great reliability but Porsche keeps coming out with great improvements every few years that makes me want more....please tell me how to get rid of my upgrade itch and worrying about selling a high mileage car!! PLEASE!!!

Simple: you refuse to buy into planned obsolescense. With peeps still loving their 967s and 993s I don't understand how 25 hp and an led or two can make sane men crazy. If you are happy stay happy. Some have a need for the "latest and greatest" They are never happy. Some get attached. Be the latter. Still loving my '06

Gpjli is right... so many people obsess with the specs of their cars they forget about the driving pleasure of a Porsche.
Keep your car and drive it to its potential. Your smile will be as broad as anyone else's.

All above responses are 100 % accurate and I echo their thoughts and advice. I have enjoyed my recently acquired '86 coupe as much as my 997.2 and can't wait to enjoy my 997.2 when it truly becomes a classic. Anybody can change cars every 5 yrs ... it takes something special to truly keep and enjoy your car "forever" and I guarantee you that when that truly happens you will be happier than anyone out there with the latest and so called best variant of 911. I recently got caught up with all the press hoopla on the GTS and almost turned into a big hypocrite ... To this day I regret that even thought in those lines. Having said that I mean no disrespect or insult to those who switch cars at the drop of the hat.
The one thing that worries in in the modern 911s is the cost of repairs. On a 3.2 Carrera it is a 5K repair for a transmission rebuild. I can't imagine when the PDK transmission fails what it would cost to fix

I bought a CPO car and the warranty expires in April 2013. Assuming I keep my car much longer, is it worth buying an aftermarket extended warranty?

If you can afford to gamble (with what I believe the odds on your side)then an extended warranty is not necessary.
Good luck

i do not drive my car much on a street anymore, got it with almost 40K miles, now got 55K miles or so, not sure if 15K miles in 3 years is much or not. IMHO - not, but i do not commute.
