What a Week........Stuck in 3rd

So my 07 C4S on Wednesday night at 12:00am decided to get stuck in 3rd gear. Luckily just as I was arriving at home. The Shifter would only go forward and back freely (no need to even depress the clutch) but would not change gears. Since I had an SSK installed in the winter I thought that was the cause. My locally indy shop who installed the SSk got me that next morning to at least look at the car (my DD) but since they are booked for the next 2 weeks they could not guarantee when they could fix it depending on what it was. Turns out one of the Shift cables snapped near the gear box and my luck the part has to be ordered since no one has it in stock. Long Story short I am looking at Wednesday next week to get my car back....SUCKS! Oh yeah, I am a month out of warranty...HA, at least it is not that expensive.

I also am noticing a high pitch kind of sound (intermittent of course) from the front right when I turn left (notice around turns at slow speeds). It only happens when I am moving so I do not think it is the steering. Could it be suspension related? Anyone experience this?

Could be a wheel bearing.

I had the same broken shift linkage last week! My insurance covered the towing but the repair set me back $800 from the Porsche dealer!

I am not going stealership. Local Indy shop is the best - $500 (add an extra $50 to expedite shipping the parts)

You're lucky you know a trustworthy shop. My experience hasn't been so positive. Any good Indy's in the Los Angeles area?

This just happened to me today. Same symptoms exactly (heard a snap - then the stick loosely traveled forward and back). I got her home gingerly (and not stopping at stop signs) in third gear.

Tow to the service shop coming Monday. I'm still under warranty and I assume this will be covered. She needs her 20K service anyway.

bummer.

Thanks sizquik, I'll definitely check them out. I had an Indy change my spark plugs, belt, and oil, all for $500. But honestly, I don't think they changed the plugs. I know it's pretty labor intensive to replace the plugs on these cars. Could I be wrong?

I'm not really sure how involved changing the plugs would be. Did they charge you for parts? If you remove one of the plugs you may be able to tell if they are new.

I've heard that when this happens you should rake the opportunity to upgrade to the gt3 cables. The hardware on the standard cable is plastic where as the gt3's is metal. Since everything is opened up.

I saw the broken part and it is not plastic, at least not the cable components.

This week was even worse. After i finally got my car back a day later the clutch went out. No warning signs, nothing. I was headed out Thursday night and all of a sudden I could hardly get the car into gear. Looking back the cable job was peanuts compared to the price of a new clutch....Yikes!!!
