'Dead Pedal' Tequipment upgrade
I received as a gift a Tequipment footrest (Part No. 997-551-986-00) upgrade matching the other pedals in the car with an aluminum trim and [fake] rubber pad. It looks great and does a great job, as the std flat plastic dead panel does not offer the same grip.

It is easy to install as it slides in place with two tabs. Note: The original footrest is removed by pulling it up, but it is best to use a trim removal tool inserted in the center (left side) to peel it out to relieve the pressure of a sawtooth locking ridge, which locks the unit in place preventing it to move up.
Note: just noticed the footrest black pad is still plastic. Just like the throttle pad. Why not rubber?

Machined aluminum dead pedals and brake or clutch and throttle pedals can be obtained from aftermarket sources for much more reasonables costs than the OEM components. The factory parts are not very attractive.
I expect that plastic is more wear resistant than rubber, and you don't need the grip of rubber on those items.
I think it is about the same height.

This OEM add-on is very light, matches the other pedals, looks good, and does the job. It should be there from factory in any case. Third party billet units are heavier (and yes, every oz counts) and usually requires drilling - not for me.
I think you are right. The material is not a hard plastic; I think it is the same material PAG uses in their OEM 'rubber' mats.
Have a look at Ultimate Pedals. They do a nice job and you 'customize' your pedals to your liking. I've used them on a couple of my Porsches and have been pleased.

The only advantage I find (besides aesthetics) to go with non Porsche pedals is the ability to heel and toe a little easier...as for the dead pedal, I think it looks nice as makes the rest of the pedals match. Porsche should be ashamed for charging people for this "option."

No doubt. I just realized that it is actually more expensive if ordered with a built-to-order - $250 vs $165 at Sunset (if you install it yourself).
