997.1 Carrera S Exhaust Upgrade.......

Looking at upgrading my exhaust on my 2008 911 CS, I'm looking at AWE's system but I'm confused by the different options. I'm looking for a system that is a little more aggressive than what I have which is stock. What do you guys like and Reccommend? I'm not looking for the ricer car sound, just a nice sounding exhaust. The beauty is that I live in NJ, so AWE is close by. Also, I'm trying to keep cost to a limit.

Lots and lots of threads here on exhaust and options. I have the full AWE set-up (headers, cats, and mufflers) and feel that the sound is perfect in terms of tone and decibels. Not as loud as some systems but perfect in my opinion. Also, AWE quality is one of the best out there and their people are great to work with.

I think the most important thing you need to do is to listen to as many systems as possible in person. Sound clips on-line are nice but really need to listen in person.

Best bang/buck is Center Exhaust Bypass. I chose the Sharkwerks system, but there are a couple of others. For less than $1000 (installed) you can greatly improve the sound and exhaust flow.

I also have the full AWE set-up. Very nice sound and easy to live with (loud when you open up the throttle, more subdued at lower revs).

Yes, do some research and most of all, hear them in person. I have the PSE on my car, so I just added the AWE 200 cell cats and it's perfect for me. To each their own.

997.1 car do not have the center rear muffler/resonator so the AWE or Sharkwerks center by pass willnot work for this person.

to the OP....if you want something just a tad bit louder then AWE is really nice. If you do not want to spend but a couple humdred do a search for Gundo Hack...sound great like PSE slightly louder.

depends on how much you want to spend on it. If you just want the nice sound I would say gundo hack works beautifully. Maybe try to find one around your area and hear the sound in person, you might like it. The horsepower gain from aftermarket muffler is not really noticeable, at least for me.

Exhaust sounds are totally subjective, so you do need to hear them in person. That said, IMO, for $300 or less, I think it's a no brainer to start with the Gundo hack and not a ~$3000 full catback system.

Its a 997.1S not .2..

To the OPs question, how much money do you want to spend. The difference in power between the AWE headers and X51 headers is minimal at best yet the X51 headers are quite a bit less expensive than the AWEs. Also, I found the AWE mufflers a tad to tame when I had my 997.1S, but once again it is subjective..I liked it loud and aggressive. You can see my mods in my sig.

Dave
