PSM - Traction control

Hi all,

I was wondering how many of you guys turn PSM off and for what situations?

I remember I was 19 at the time when I rode in my first C4S at an autocross, and the driver pushed the PSM button. When I asked him what it was for, he said it was "so we could get sideways."

It seems like PSM off is mostly a track-use option. What do you guys think?

Leave it on all the time on the street unless you're trying to get out of a snow bank.

On the track, PSM while PASM Sport Mode is engaged (assuming you have the sport chrono package) is relaxed enough to allow the car to constructively slide and/or get loose without interfering very much although it will accelerate brake pad wear. At the same time it can save you from a disastrous outcome should you prematurely run out of talent. If you decide to turn it off, make sure you know what you're doing. Best,

For me it is on all the time on the street. I leave it off on the track unless it is raining.

Do not touch the PSM button. You'll thank me later.

Alan -- Please explain how the PSM interferes on the track in a way you don't like. Or is it just to save wear on your brakes?

KonaKai - The wear on the brakes is an issue. It makes it a bit more difficult to rotate the car in a corner. That is why I leave it on at the track if it's raining. Nothing like feeling the backend coming around in the rain.

If I'm in the passenger seat with a novice I make sure that PSM is on.

Agreed. PSM also has the capability to unbalance a car on the edge by applying selective braking (less than all 4 wheels) or by momentarily cutting power unexpectedly. While it's well intentioned (as if a car has intentions......) it can be quite unnerving. Just when you think you've got control of that slide or whatever, BAM, the car thinks it can do it better than you and you're then stuck dealing with those consequences.

I once asked an instructor when in a driver's progression he recommended turning it off. "You'll know when" was all he said. Best,
