Child seat latches

I was planning my first trip with the family, which includes a 5 and 2 year olds. I went to the back and started to took for the hooks (anchors) for the booster seats, but there is nothing there. There are only two plastic plugs that show where the latch should go. So, do I have to buy my own hooks (that would be surprising) and install them?

At least in my 2007 C2S there are no lower LATCH anchors and I have to use the lap/shoulder for my 2 year old's seat. There is a top LATCH hook hidden under the carpet in the deck behind the seats. The carpet has some scores in it that you cut to gain access to this. Cabs do not have these anchors though.

Do you mean to actually cut the carpet to get to the anchors?, but where exactly, I don't feel anything by touch

See, mine is not a convertible so I put the car seat over the sunroof opening and the baby loves the wind in the face. You have the option of forward facing, side, or rear facing.

How do they retro fit the front seat LATCH hooks? This could be a good solution for a front seat (airbag off) rear-facing convertable seat for kids under 2 yo.

Resurrecting this thread...

I have an almost two year old who loves dad's GTS CAB, but has been relegated to driveway only rides... until now. Its taken a few months, but I have a few answers for those wanting to drive with little ones in a 911 cab.

If you own a coupe, you have a few options. If you have a cab, most of what you read does not apply to your car.

If you have a cab, you have one, and only one, option - dealer-installed Porsche Latch system in the front passenger seat. There are no Latch hooks in the rear seats of 997 cabs. I got conflicting stories from different dealers, but can now say definitively, the only way to attach a child's car seat to a cab back seat is with the seatbelt. Although this may be legal in some states, I couldn't bring myself to go with this option.

This took a few months to find. I'm not sure why. Porsche sells a kit with the following parts:

997-552-902-00-A03 Seat Side Panel
997-044-800-15 Retrofit Kit Child C
999-141-047-01 Torx Screw 10x28

The kit consists of 2 Latch hooks that mount on the lower portion of the passenger seat (just like the wife's Cayenne), a new airbag sensor under the passenger seat, and a passenger side door-jam mounted key switch for the airbag.

You need the new airbag sensor and manual cut-off switch because the auto-airbag switch that comes with the car is weight activated ( if passengerButt >= 35_lbs then airbag = on). This means that anytime you install the car seat, you need to turn off the airbag using your ignition key in the new door-jam switch. I would have preferred a switch mounted inside the car. I'm fairly good an remembering to turn the airbag off when I install the car seat, but am not perfect at turning it back on when I remove the car seat. I usually remember with my wife in the passenger seat while shooting down the highway at 80mph... which requires I pull-over, shut-off the car, walk around to the passenger side, open the door, and turn the dang thing back on. Having a switch mounted nearly ANYWHERE else would be better.

The good news is I can now use ANY car seat. Although only certain car seats (usually the ones with the poorer safety ratings fit in the rear seats, ANY car seat fits in the passenger seat, and mounts very solidly. Another benefit is that I can move the passenger seat nearly all the way forward with my son in it, which leaves enough room for my wife to ride in the backseat.

On our first drive, my son learned the phrase, “Daddy downshift!”
