Going to the Darkside?

Pondering Black for my next 911. (crazy?) had a Black Honda Prelude 20 yrs ago and that paint SUCKED. How does Porsche Black compare to say Lexus or BMW Black???

My 996 was black, and it was not as good as the Lexus black. I also didn't take really good care of it.

(I'm not sure about BMW's)

Lexus has some beautiful paint, but wonder how good it holds up. I had an Alpine white E46, was very maticulate about washing/waxing BUT still showed swirls...on white!!

Black on a car IS NOT a color.

It's a hobby.

That just Classic...Rep Points...

And a PITA hobby at that. I've given up on Black cars. Had a Black C2S PDK then a Black P2S, and spent more time keep those things clean that driving them. ESPECIALLY the Panamera...my god does that car have a lot of surface area.

Black is a lot of work, the 911 is small enough to enjoy it in black. I would never get a black suv or a family sedan. Too much upkeep.

I've had many...too many cars/suv's in black...wifes choice.

Porsche black is good and for black easy to take care of. Mercedes black has to be the absolutle best black paint in the industry.

My GTS is black and looks awesome. My wifes Cayenne is black and before that she has had a BMW X5, Mercedes, 2 Boxsters, 2 Vette's, Caddy, Jeep Grand Cherokee all in black.

I've had black cars. Even the ones with really great paint are hard to keep looking nice - especially the swirl marks. I've found that dark grey, like Porsche's Meteor Grey, can look beautiful even weeks after a wash. It doesn't show dirt, dust or swirls like pure black.

That said -- black is beautiful!

I have to say, being that I own a black one,BEST investment I made was a small pressure washer and the Porter cable 6" orbital polisher. Before I wash it I use the pressure washer to rinse the car off. This gets rid of alot of the small particles that do lead to swirls! As far as polishing.....the Porter cable cut my time down HUGE and did the work with alot less product(wax, polish)
Also,IF you enjoy detailing and can muster up a bit of time to wax it a few times a year.......you will be fine.IMO,nothing better than a well maintained black paint job!

Good luck with your decision.

Love/Hate. Love the way it looks after full wax detail. Hate it when it's not waxed and detailed.

If you're considering a new black 911, the current Black Edition looks nice, though I believe it's only available with the base 911 (not S, etc.).
