I'm in the same area as you and I was quoted $500 at one shop. They said that its a tight spot and that they do the welding better (cosmetically) than most of the other hack jobs out there. My thoughts are that no one can see the muffler under my car so as long as it sounds good and is mechanically sound I'm not overly concerned with the appearance of the welds. But I do understand not wanting to put your name on something that isn't up to a particular shop's standards.

My plan is to remove the mufflers myself and 1. See if a family member can do the job for me or 2. take just the cans to a decent shop and have them do it. Sometimes I feel like people raise the price just because of the little gold badge on hood of the car.

At $250 its a no brainer, at $500 I might as well just go the rest of the way and buy an aftermarket exhaust.

I agree Ken.

That is why I ended up with slightly used Fabspeed MaxFlo mufflers. Have them for a about a week and so far I am very pleased.

I'd be interested in this mod. Anyone know of a decent muffler shop in the North Bay?

A couple of thoughts on this thread.I did this hack to my '06 a few weeks after Gundo posted it. I did not over think it. I took the pictures along with my mufflers to the local Midas Muffler shop. For ~ $100 they cut an welded the cross over pipes in. Not even stainless. ow ~ 5 years later they are still awesome and sounding great. All I did was paint the cross over pipes with high temp paint. I'm sure my welds are not pretty and I don't have stainless cross overs... but every day since I get to enjoy the awesome sound of this simple mod.

Don't over think this simple and awesome mod. Just do it... cheaply

Best,

Matt

here's a you tube from '07 when I did it.

If you are going to remove the cans..send them to Darin at FD Motorsports and he can do an exchange with you. He has several cans on the shelf to do the swap out. He can also provide ceramic coated tips for cheap. Got mine in black for $60.00 and the hack form$250.00

thinking of this mod myself and have questions... I got the person who is going to do the welding, getting the 2 in stainless pipe. Started looking under the car and at the muffler removal posts. I have a 09 S. I see the two center muffler conecting bolts, I think I see the two horizontal front muffler bolts thru the rear wheel well and I have another bracket at the rear of the muffler with two bolts at the top and two at the bottom onto the lower exhaust. Should I remove the top or bottom bolts from this bracket? What am I missing? I don t see how this mufler will drop down but you guys jave done it so I guess it fits. (I will remove the fender brace). Everybody says it will not be loud or sounding like a rice burner? Same procedure in reverse to install? Any other tips? Thanks.

cerbomark,
I posted a DYI not too long ago for the 997.2. Do a search for my threads and you'll find it. PM me if u need help. To answer your question, you will need to remove the pair at the top.

Yea, cool, I found your great DIY... Nice pics and all! https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-hack-way.html
Whatever those rep points thing means, you should get some for that.

I m just going with a 2 in and no center muffler change like you did. I wish I could hear one in person upstate NY before I go with it. I don t want it annoying. I know, that s subjective.

No complaints here. You can go to the stealer and have the salesman rev one up with PSE on "sport" mode. It would be a very close frame of reference.

Is that what the PSE exhaust is? Just an electronic valve in the place where the Gundo Hack is?

The Gundo hack is almost like the electronic valve continuously opened, sport mode or not. Not familiar on how the the PSE is configured to comment. Someone may chime in on that.
