Dectane LEDs still getting Check Left Brake Light

Have 08 997.
Installed and getting 'check left brake light'
When folks are saying error codes, is this what you mean?
Power is going to it - they do light up, the signal and fog work,
however i have had intermittent problems with the brake light only for that side.sometimes it gets bright when brake applied other times only the right gets bright. I did not install the resistor. Any thoughts? Emailed Frank 3x since 8/31, no response. Any issues with communicating with Frank?
Thanks.

Did you get the resistor units with your lights? If so, try installing them, they are intended to create enough resistance that the system will detect the new lights correctly and you shouldn't get the "check the foglight" message. Once you try that, see if the intermittent bright/dim issue goes away too. If not, that sounds like a bad or dirty connection.

thanks for the quick response. It is only the left brake light but should I install both the left and right resistors? On my drive home just now, it worked fine....including fog light. Is installing the resistors simply clicking the black little box between the light plug and the connector wire of the car?

I'd hook them both up. The box connects to a separate wire connector that is part of the taillight not to the connector wire of the car. It will be obvious when you pull the light out.

Did you ever solve your Dectane Brake Light error code

Did installing the resistors solve your problem?
How did you resolve your problem? I just installed my lights and I am getting the same error code you got.

Most people (including myself) that had the error, installed both resistors which corrected the problem. Let me know if you have installation questions.

Installing the resistors worked beautifully. Thank you for all your advise and help. Hopefully this thread helps others.

Unhappy Encountering "Check Left Tail Light"

Just 6 months ago I purchased a set of Dectane Porsche Rear LEDs and until now, they have been flawless.

Here is the issue that I have been encountering. Starting 3/31/12, I left my home with the DRLs turned on (as I usually do) and headed for a poker tournament about 45 minutes away. 10 minutes into my drive (I timed it via the trip computer) the Porsche computer messaged to check the left tail light. I could confirm while driving that the break light and turn signal worked fine during this drive (by watching the reflection in the vehicles behind me at the lights). Upon arriving at my destination, I re-confirmed that the left rear tail light was not illuminating at all, but the turn signal, reverse light, and brake light worked. I shut the car off, locked the doors and waited re-checked that the home light setting didn’t work either on the left rear light. I waited for that to time out, unlocked the car, started the engine and the light error cleared. Went and played (lost J) at poker.

Came back out, started the car, all seemed well, and 9 minutes in, same thing. Got home, checked the fuse panel and all is good. Restarted the car and ran to get some food, 3 minutes in and again, left light out. Drove to work this morning with lights on at 6:00 am and 10 minutes in, same thing, message from the Porsche computer for the left tail light, but brake light and left turn signal worked fine. Got home from work today (same thing on the way home), removed the left rear light, checked connections and all seemed fine. Re-tried the lights, and 30 seconds, left rear tail light fails. I removed the connection for the resistor on the left rear light only, and re-tested, 30 – 45 seconds in, same thing. I have verified this by swapping the left and right tail light assemblies (fortunately Porsche uses the same connector/harness on both sides J) and the problem follows the light. I have also swapped the two resistors for the lights and the same left tail light has the problem. It would appear to me at this point that the issue is in the control module that takes the OEM inputs and translates them to work with the LEDs.

I am guessing that I need an RMA; however, I have been e-mailing Frank at Orange-Tuning.de for the past few weeks and no response. Anyone hear from Frank? Ideas on what else I could do to resolve this issue.

he's obviously one of those people that contribute nothing to forums, they ask questions or state a problem, then never update or help out the community by letting us know the solution!

Hey guys - I apologize - I ended up getting a replacement rear LED since the resistor pack did not solve the issue; the new light was installed without the resistor packs and have been working fine.

I have been posting for a couple of years intermittently, and I do appreciate the help.

same issue

Unfortunately, I just started having the same issue as scrounger. My lights were working great for the 1st 6 months and all of the sudden I started getting the Check Left Tail Light message. Brake Light and Reverse light work fine. Normal rear light comes on when I first turn the lights on but goes out after a few seconds and I get the error message.

Yes, resistors are installed, and I have switched them to try to isolate the problem but still the left side.

Emailed Frank last week and no response yet.

Anyone try calling Frank or should I just try to go through paypal to get the refund and hope that will prompt a response?
