991 Carrera S laps Nurburgring as fast as 997 GT3/Turbo S
Good point. To further support the quality of the automotive journalism at Sportauto, they've recently added another measurement to their auto tests. They measure the full suspension specs and compare the test car to the factory "stock" settings. Hence, they show the readers if the test car was set up with 2 deg negative camber, while the stock specs perhaps show only 1 deg. Good track specs will lead to better times, but degrade street drivability. This was a great idea on their part.

there are million things to do to get a 'lap time' car when company can put in different PSM code, different ABS unit, different valving for shocks, aero, gosh, you name it they got it. then you get like 20sec difference between 'company' lap times and 'stock' car lap times. especially for p-car where pretty much anything can be replaced. marketing bs. truth will be known when we wil lget 991 gt3 car and it will be tested by hundreds of folks around the globe.
my opinion is - i do not think it will be worse car than 997 car was. i only wonder how much its maintenance will cost and how managable DIY service will be with new stuff they put in. i really hope they will continue on with old school engineering what made porsche a 'people`s car' as it is so easy to take apart and fix it up, well, compared to most of p-car competition.
My point is simply this. I think Porsche over reached with their Ring lap time claims on the new 991S raising too many red flags.
Had they come in more conservative like 3-5 seconds faster then a 997S then most including me would have said, "Hmmm, Ok. Sound reasonable for the advancments they worked into the new model."
But as fast as 997GT3 or Turbo. Sorry. I was born at night but not last night.

This can be resolved. Take the 997S and 991S out to the track on the same day, give them the same very good tires, have the same very good driver do three best-effort laps in each, and then compare the best times for each car. Or go further and try all of this with three drivers, taking the best times from each driver and averaging those best times.
Call me crazy, but Porsche definitively and carefully studied the 997.2s versus the new 991.2s on the Ring. They have it on video, with telemetry, Helicopter mounted video, etc. They might not share anything but the time with us but the Stuttgart Engineers have to be stalking the GTR since '08 when Nissan brought Godzilla to the Ring. Also note on FastestLaps.com that the PDK 997.2s dropped the previous 997.1s by 9 sec.
