But you know how many people are, they want their bragging rights. Even if the driver isn't capable of a 10min lap around Nurburgring (which I'll tell is still moving pretty quickly for the average driver, I've done 7 or 8 laps there) they still want to be able to brag that their car is capable of it. That's the only reason these lap times are such a big deal, same thing with 0-60, 1/4 mile and every other arbitrary feat of speed, it's all about bragging rights for 99% of the population. But for that remaining 1%, this really is a big deal.
The fact that it laps as quickly as a GT3 shows a lot of potential and just how far they have come with this new chassis.
BUT, the big equalizer here would be PDK. Put PDK in a GT3 and I'm sure it would be a little quicker, even in the hands of a professional.

Also, the 991S that accomplished this was probably optioned to the equivalent of current 997.2 Turbo prices: PDK, SC, PDCC, PTV, etc. While quite a feat for a NA 3.8 911, I think some consideration for relative costs/etc are in order.
Still this helps show the constant improvement that Porsche is building into a Daily Driver Sports Car.

I'm impressed. This gives more evidence that Porsche didn't screw up the new 911. I just hope it's as fun as it is fast, since the two aren't quite the same thing.

The overall time has more to do with the driver and the day on top of the car, than the car.
Thats why after all this time, the record around the Nordscheife is still the one set back in the 1983 by Stefan Bellof in a 956 at 6:11.13. That man saw and drove in a different dimension until it killed him.
In 27 years, with the newer cars, no one has gone around faster yet.
