By the way, any of you guys with 997.1 cars will not have the linear function, at least I didn't on the two 997.1 cars I had. I always thought the bass was way to boomy on that Bose system in the 997.1.
Yeah I don't recollect seeing the linear function, I will check after work. I assume it's programmed through the PCM.

And werd on the bass. I listen to trance and house music and it comes out with too much boom IMO.

I agree that the Bose system is not that good. My DD Ford F150 has a better sound IMO. I no longer have the Bose system because I sold my C4S and got into a GT3. The sound system in the GT3 (even with the "upgraded" system) really stinks, but you could not hear it well anyway due to the flat 6 symphony going on around you. From that perspective, I have the best sound that Porsche offers and it is good.

I have not tried that yet - that I can recall, but the guy with the vintage Neumann mic for an avatar makes me think it is, at least, worth trying...

Frankly, I don't think Porsche is targeting the audiophile market with the 911 because no one buys a 911 because they love the stereo.

The only thing good about Bose is their Marketing. Anyone that believes great sound comes from 2" or smaller speakers has never listened to a good system.

I like the sound of the motor better than the Bose in the 911 but it's currently adequate. I listen to Metal so a punchy crisp loud efficient speaker is what I'm looking for. It really depends on your ear and what you listen to.

Wow! Nice Speakers. I have a 21 year old set of Carver's that I refuse to ever sell because I believe they sound incredible. Seems like those Martin Logan's would be better served by some nice mono block tube amps. Perhaps McIntosh.

quote=Mkaaes;3317707]The "upgraded" bose audo system is horrible, the system in my old 335 blows it away. But then again I listen to Martin Logans powered by solid state monoblocks[/quote]

Maybe so, but the Bose system is definitely good enough for my ears.

The only way to get good sounding music out of a car is to go aftermarket. No manufacturer is going to put quality speakers or amplifiers in the car because it has to be warranted and that costs to much money. Also sound deadening material makes a huge difference in sound. Try Dynamatting just your doors floor and roof, big difference. Also the number of speaker in a system and eq option does not matter if the speakers and amplifier are not quality to begin with. Bose is not meant to be ground breaking just acceptable for the average person, but then again people who drive Porsches are not ordinary people and expect more. That is the dilemma.

I found the Bose pretty mediocre, but adding the Dension and an iPod for high quality input and it made a big difference in the sound quality. I highly recommend the change.

Enhance premium sound is a big improvement in my M3. Very costly system, but it really cranks. The car is also quite a bit quieter than the 997 was, so it is easier to listen to music while commuting or in traffic.

I like the Bose in the my 06 C2. I think that maybe the interior acoustics mixed with the exterior noise tends to affect the sound. When just sitting in the garage in aux mode with the engine off, it sounds good. I certainly plan on spending more money on performance in the future than on a sound upgrade.
